Brown’s SAM.gov registration now reflects the University’s legal name, “Brown University”. SAM.gov is required for all entities doing business with the federal government. This information can be found an OSP’s handy Institutional Facts page.

NSF’s requirements for Current & Pending Support effective October 4th
NSF published a *New* Disclosures Table that provides guidance on what information must be disclosed as part of an application, annual and final reports. Please follow this link to locate this Table.

Award management review best practices
Review your award budget in Workday at the outset of the project and immediately notify OSP if changes are required.  Review ongoing expenditures monthly to ensure proper allocation of funds in accordance with the award. OSP staff contact names.

NIH applicants preparing applications for Fall 2021 due dates during Covid-19
NIH grant applications should NOT include contingency or recovery plans for problems resulting from Covid-19. Applicants may address effects due to Covid on productivity or scoreable issues in their Personal Statement in the NIH Biosketch.

NSF *Time Sensitive*  proposal preparation instructions
Also effective early October,  a separate biographical sketch (three pages) must be provided through use of an NSF-approved format, for each individual designated as senior personnel.

Oxford Nanopore announces IPO in London
Oxford Nanopore announced a London IPO after reaching a $3.3B valuation. Nanopore offers DNA sequencing products and rapid COVID-19 tests, and has licensed imaging and sequencing technologies from Derek Stein (Physics). Read more.

Faster neural networks to tackle data modeling challenges
George Karniadakis (Applied Math and Engineering) and his team recently received press coverage for DeepONet, a method they developed that uses neural networks to solve families of Partial Differential Equations (PDE). Read more.

Three new patents to Brown last month
(1) for Jacob Rosenstein’s work on chemical computation methods (US 11,093,865); (2) Samir Gadre’s innovation to facilitate human training of robots (US 11,090,813); and (3) Peter Weber’s spectroscopy enhancing chemical vapor detection (US 11,099,129).

Department of Energy: Early Career Research Program
The purpose of this program is to support the development of individual research programs of outstanding scientists early in their careers and to stimulate research careers in the areas supported by the DOE Office of Science.

People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) Student Design Competition 
EPA's P3 Program funds teams of college students designing solutions for a sustainable future. Offers one-year "proof of concept" grants up to $25,000 and chance for $100,000 to implement design in a real world setting. Due 10/27/21.
