According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, osteoporosis is a bone disease that happens when you lose too much bone, make too little bone or both. Osteoporosis literally means "porous bone" and makes an individual more susceptible to fractures. The strength and health of our bones relies heavily on a diet rich in nutrients, especially calcium and vitamin D. Because calcium is not produced in the body, and because vitamin D helps the body to absorb calcium, it is vital that we include these nutrients in a healthy diet and lifestyle.

We are pleased to recognize MORE HEALTH director Rick Kouwe.

Rick has lived in Tampa with his wife, Jeannie, for 42 years. In these years Rick has built and sold a business, joined the financial sector and served on various boards including that of Tampa Preparatory School and the Tampa General Hospital Foundation before entering retirement. It was in his board capacity at TGH that Rick learned about the hospital's relationship with More Health.

Bicycle and pedestrian accidents are a leading cause of fatalities in children. The facts are startling and speak for themselves. According to the Centers for Disease Control:
  • In 2013, 4,735 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in the United States.
  • In 2013 in the U.S., over 900 bicyclists were killed and there were an estimated 494,000 emergency department visits due to bicycle-related injuries.
  • In 2013, one in every five children under the age of 14 who were killed in traffic crashes were pedestrians.
  • Adolescents and young adults (15-19 years) and adults aged 40 years and older have the highest bicycle death rates.

The best babysitting class in town is educational and fun, focusing on safety and first-aid. Participants (ages 11-15) receive CPR instruction for infants and children. Classes are held 9:00AM - 1:00PM. The cost is $35.00.
