Best wishes, The Law & Business Programmes Team Law Lab Law Lab has moved destination. It will now be held in Exchange Red from 9am-10am. This change in venue now means that tea and coffee will be provided. In this session the news stories that are being discussed will be decided by the academic staff. However, after Reading Week we will be asking different Law Firms to lead the session on a news topic of their choice. BME Opportunity - Rare Foundations Law You have until the 31st October to apply for a position on the Rare Foundations Law course. This is an excellent opportunity for BME students to get an advantage in the application process through a variety of workshops and opportunities designed to enhance your CV. Upcoming News and Events: Refresh Your Maths If you would like to refresh your maths skills then please book onto one of the sessions that the Career Zone are putting on. These sessions will be held Wednesday 7th November. Click on the following link to find out more information and to book onto this event. Career Mentor Scheme You can apply for a career mentor through My Career Zone until the 13th November. On MCZ there are a variety of different mentors who you can apply for, with a range of experiences. The aim of this scheme is to partner you with someone in your chosen career field who can then offer you advice, support and potentially work experience. The scheme runs from November 2019 to April 2020 and is a brilliant way to gain advice on pursuing your chosen career. You can find out more information about the Career Mentor Scheme here. Aspiring Solicitors: plan your strategy to prepare for interviews and assessment centres On the 13th November between 13:00-14:30 in Seminar Green, Exchange, Michelle Nwaesei from Aspiring Solicitors will give a workshop on how to plan your strategy to prepare for interviews and assessment centres. Book your place on the following link. Exeter Law Careers Fair To book your place on the bus to Streatham on the 20th November to see over 80 different legal employers, click on this link. The legal employers who will be at the event include top firms such as Clifford Chance, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Linklaters LLP and many more. You will have to pay a £5 deposit to book your place. The buses will depart from Penryn at 10:30 arriving back at campus at 17:30. You must book your place by the 15th November. It is important to remember that Law Careers Fairs are excellent opportunities to network. Make sure that you set up a Linkedin account prior to this event - this will give you the opportunity to remain connected to exhibitors, who might offer you opportunities in the long run if they are impressed with you. Be Yourself Be Unique Join the trainees and graduate recruitment team at Law Firm Stephens Scown on Wednesday 29th January 2020 from 4:30pm-6:30pm in their offices at Osprey House, Malpas Road, Truro TR1 1UTS. This event will include: the "dos and don'ts" of the training contract application and interview process, hearing from a Stephens Scown trainee about what a training contract is really like and a Q&A session with the Graduate Recruitment Team. Staff are unable to reply to emails that are not sent via your Exeter email account as this is in direct breach of GDPR regulations. Therefore, please only use your Exeter email and remember to regularly check it in order to receive communications from staff. In regards to the staff response time to emails, staff members are expected to respond to emails within three working days. The definition of a working day is the staff member's personal working hours with the university - for some staff this is only one day a week. Please do not contact staff outside of the hours 9am - 5pm or over the weekend, they will not reply to you due to these hours not being incorporated into their working day. If you would like to contact a staff member but it is outside their working hours, please email lawtutors-cornwall@exeter.ac.uk, someone will respond to this email as soon as possible. Flamank Law Society The Law Society on campus is having a restructure and reboot. Between 13:00-14:30 on the 26th November in PL Lecture 2 there will be a hustings for positions within the society. These include: president, treasurer, social sec. (x2), international officer, liaison officer (1st &3rd year rep). If you would like to find out more about these positions or to apply please email the current president at flamanklawsociety@gmail.com. To apply for a committee role, you must be a member of the society. Flamank will be participating in the charity football match next week. They need a team of ten players, if you are interested in participating then please email the address given above. Join Flamank today for only £10 and you will be able to participate in their employability workshops and attend the lectures that they put on with external speakers. The society will also be hosting socials throughout the year culminating in the Spring Ball. Careers Advice Internships Drop In These are held on Wednesdays 1-3pm in the Career Zone. Students who want support in finding internship opportunities or insight days are welcome to pop into these sessions. Careers Consultant Appointments Please pop into the Career Zone to make an appointment, or call 01326 253735. There is a traiging system in place so that students can prepare for their appointment. For example, if youu would like help with your CV, you will be directed to a CV writing skills session or resources prior to your meeting with a consultant. Skills Events These are branded under the Exeter Award or Exeter Leaders Award. There are a variety of these delivered through a format of two hour workshops or online learning. There are workshops on a variety of topics including presentation skills, commercial awareness and networking. Help with preparing for interviews and applications There are useful resources on My Career Zone to help you with things like applications, psychometric testing and assessment centres. David collaborated with two academics from Streatham campus on the article: 'Going around in circles? Conceptual recycling, patching and policy layering in the EU circular economy package'.
