MDAFP Members Contribute to Prominent National Publications
Maryland FP Leads Efforts to Improve Minority Health - We are proud to bring to members (in case you missed it) the article featuring MDAFP President Patricia A. Czapp, M.D. in the April 21, 2017 edition of AAFP News Now. The article appeared to highlight Pat’s work “in alignment with AAFP’s Support for National Minority Health Month in April." Dr. Czapp is Chair of Clinical Integration, Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Primary Care is in Crisis. Here’s One Way to Fix It – MDAFP Past President Richard Colgan, M.D. (1998) authored “Primary Care is in Crisis. Here’s One Way to Fix It,” appearing in the April 18, 2017 edition of The Huffington Post. Dr. Colgan is Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
QPP Now: It’s Time to Pick Your Pace
AAFP will begin transitioning language and graphics in emails and on the AAFP website to the Quality Payment Program (QPP). QPP, created as part of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA), replaces Medicare’s traditional fee-for-service program.
QPP is the umbrella term for the two payment tracks—Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and Advanced Alternative Payment Models (AAPM’s). Most AAFP members will initially participate in MIPS.
Participation in 2017 will impact Medicare payments when QPP payment adjustments take effect in 2019. That’s why CMS deemed 2017 a transition year, allowing physicians to “Pick Your Pace."
The AAFP has resources to help them take action, including:
QPP handout—provides an overview of QPP and the paths they can take to avoid a payment penalty.
Pick Your Pace resources—participation requirements and a time line for 2017, as well as practice scenarios for each participation option.
QPP technical assistance—CMS has several programs available to help transition and successfully participate in one of the two payment programs.
