Launch of Release NINE in December fulfils ETSI's zero-touch automation vision

With this release, the OSM community is fulfilling the top emerging demands in the telco cloud market. Alongside comprehensive support for the latest developments in Kubernetes, which is being increasingly adopted in the network industry, OSM is also embracing the most recent use cases from ETSI MEC (Multi-access Edge Computing) and O-RAN, ensuring it is ready to facilitate their deployment and operation. As a result, OSM Release NINE provides several exciting new features:

  • Next Generation of Resource Orchestration: enables OSM to manage differential scenarios and be ready for smooth support of the rollback and resumption of new deployments over different infrastructures.
  • Extended VNF and CNF lifecycle management: the VNF configuration engine has been extended to support Helm 3, the new version of the package format for Kubernetes applications, and to allow the centralized operation of distributed CNFs. Among other benefits, this improves the resiliency of highly distributed edge deployments.
  • Smooth integration with external systems: production deployments require the integration of OSM with external systems, which has been significantly simplified in this release, with enhancements in role-based access control (RBAC) and support for standardized subscription and notification APIs for OSS/BSS.
  • User Interface improvements: multi-tenancy has been added to OSM’s Grafana dashboard along with numerous improvements in the Graphical User Interface (GUI).

OSM-MR#10 Remote Hackfest is scheduled for March 2021.  Registration is open now.

Growing participation in community

ETSI's Centre for Testing and Interoperability and the OSM community are organizing a new OSM Hackfest on 8-12 March 2021. The event will be run remotely, allowing participants to join the hands-on sessions from home.

The OSM-MR#10 Hackfest, the very first one featuring OSM Release NINE will consist on a series of sessions allowing participants to exchange and learn about:

  • How to operate OSM
  • Discovering and experimenting with latest features in OSM Release NINE
  • Modeling, packaging and on-boarding VNFs, PNFs or CNFs, Network Services, and Slices
  • Developing OSM Primitives for automating Day1-2 operations
  • Troubleshooting, debugging and modifying code in OSM Modules

Who should attend

  • VNF vendors, who want to onboard their VNF in OSM following best practices
  • System Integrators, who want to develop their expertise with OSM
  • Service providers, who want to get first hand operational experience with OSM
  • Academia and Universities, who are using or considering OSM as platform for their research activities in networking
  • Experimented developers and users that want to share and test with the community

OSM invites you to join us for Ecosystem Day

As we continue to improve our way of collaboration in these times, ETSI OSM continues to support and encourage its tremendous ecosystem with our on-going series of Ecosystem Days.  Our first Ecosystem Day of 2021 is now scheduled for Wednesday 10 March Afternoon (2:30pm - 6:00pm CET)

The OSM Ecosystem Day allows organizations in the OSM Ecosystem to share about how OSM is helping them to achieve their goals. Presentations and demos cover a wide range of aspects from research activities in academia to production deployments and commercial initiatives, many of them focused in 5G use cases.

If you only wish to attend to the OSM-MR#10 Ecosystem day (and not the whole hackfest) please kindly register with the link below.

Should you or your organization be interested in sharing your OSM success story at the OSM-MR#10 Ecosystem Day on March 10th, please send an email no later than 15 February to OSMsupport@etsi.org with the following information:

  • Talk Title:
  • Speaker name and title:
  • Brief abstract:
  • Demo: yes/no
