Dear Old Moretonian

It is good to see Moreton constantly keeping up with the times and hopefully this new look E-mail will enable OMs to keep up with present Moreton news easily and to keep in touch with each other.

The OMs had a wonderful reunion dinner at the Savile Club in London for past Head Prefects, Second Prefects and winners of the Karefa -Smart Trophy recently.  This was a very popular dinner and places were fully (and over) subscribed. It was a wonderful opportunity for the various generations to catch up and our thanks go to the school and the Governors for their hospitality.

Mr Forster addressed the dinner and informed us of all the girls' marvellous academic achievements this year.  Whilst this is wonderful, it was also good to hear that it is still the education of the whole person which is paramount at Moreton and the sentiments of the winning of the Karefa-Smart trophy still live on.

Future OM Reunion Dinners in the next couple of years may include an OM Lacrosse Dinner and an OM Moreton Enterprises Dinner. Do let us know your thoughts.

As many of you know, Moreton's Centenary is approaching in 2013 – 2014 and the school is already underway with preparations.  We would like as many OMs as possible to contribute and be involved in the centenary celebrations and I would love to hear from you with your ideas of how to celebrate Moreton’s Centenary.

Auction of Promises - Friday 11th November

The 2011 Auction of Promises will be an evening of entertainment and fun. It will also be a wonderful opportunity to bid for some unique Lots, just in time for Christmas. Some wonderful bespoke items and experiences have been promised by parents and Old Moretonians, many of which are not available publicly.

Attached is the invitation to the Auction on Friday 11th November as well as the Catalogue of Lots and a Bidding Form. We would love to see you on the evening but if you are unable to attend, do have a look at the catalogue and use the bidding form to allow us to bid on your behalf for various Lots.

All profits from the Auction of Promises will support the Foundation’s main aim of raising £1 million to enable the construction of an innovative and progressive Science building which reflects Moreton’s academic success in this area. Another key target of the Foundation is the creation of a Centenary Scholarship.

OM 1991 Reunion at Moreton - September 2011

Excerpts from a letter to Jonathan Forster:

“The Reunion was an enormous success; we all thoroughly enjoyed the lunch, the tour and the netball - although we can’t quite believe that we won!

To return after 20 years is so very strange. We all move on but none of us really changes which is quite a refreshing thing to note. Today, more than ever, our children are under such pressure to ‘be’ something; to ‘be yourself’ and remain true is often much harder but also far more important.

The school is obviously a triumph and you must be immensely proud of everything you have achieved.

On the way home on Saturday I telephoned my Mother in France to say thank you for sending me to Moreton all those years ago. For a parent it is a huge undertaking and all you hope for is happiness and fulfilment; I hope that I delivered.

I wish you every success with the continuing pride of Moreton and many, many thanks for allowing us back.”

OM Head Prefects, Deputy Heads & Karefa-Smart Reunion Dinner in London - October 2011

“Moreton has always done things so well and last Thursday’s dinner followed in the tradition of excellence. I admit that I felt somewhat nervous on arrival but the warmth of greeting from other Moretonians soon dispelled any concerns. Bron always told us that stage-fright or nerves were a form of conceit! (How often her words come back to me.)

It was a most successful evening. I really enjoyed myself and I want to thank you and all concerned for having such an inspired idea and for all the effort in organising the invitations for so many different years' leavers as Head Prefects or Award holders.

It is wonderful to see Moreton doing so well as a single-sex school. I taught in the Alice Ottley School for girls in Worcester for 30 years and never knew whether to cheer for Moreton or the AO at lacrosse fixtures!”
