Unhealthy outcome for fitness club

The Upper Tax Tribunal has ruled that VAT is due on membership fees paid late.

HMRC offer clarity on VAT liability of supplies by pension consultants

Following the Financial Services Authority’s ‘Retail Distribution Review’ (‘RDR’) HMRC have published a business brief which confirms the VAT implications of changes affecting Employee Benefit Consultants ('EBCs') and others providing similar services to employers and/or employees.

What do points make? VAT recovery!

The Supreme Court recently ruled that Loyalty Management UK Ltd (‘LMU’), who run the Nectar points scheme, are entitled to recover input VAT they had incurred in running the scheme in a case that first started 7 years ago.

Update on withdrawal of research exemption

At the end of 2012 HMRC published a consultation regarding the withdrawal of VAT exemption for the supply of research between two non-profit making bodies (‘eligible bodies’). As a result of responses received they have offered some clarity on supplies that will not be affected by the removal of the exemption.
