Honor Kleinhesselink with a donation

Randy Kleinhesselink

Randy Kleinhesselink, retired professor of psychology and a founding faculty member at WSU Vancouver, passed away May 28. His wife, Mona McNeil, said he did not wish to have a funeral, but she said he was delighted to hear tributes from colleagues at his retirement celebration in February. For those who wish to honor Randy’s memory with a contribution, Mona suggests the Cancer Genome Anatomy Project (donate via the National Cancer Institute) or Hospice.

Be smart about protecting your property at work

Combination lock

Summer is a time when we may have fewer employees on campus due to vacations and summer schedules. This can signal opportunity to thieves looking to take personal belongings from work areas. While WSU Vancouver has not experienced recent property theft, WSU Vancouver police recommend the following practices to keep your belongings safe at work:

  • Be aware of anyone in your area who may not belong there e.g. someone hanging around or walking through looking at desks. Ask anyone you don’t know if you can help them and/or what their business in that area is. Don’t hesitate to call 6-9001, 911 or 690-1527 if you notice anyone suspicious, try to get the most accurate description such as race, age, clothing, hair color, glasses or facial hair, etc. If you can do so safely, try and watch where the individual goes so that Public Safety will have a direction of travel.
  • Never leave your property unattended, not even for a moment.
  • Engrave your personal items (calculators, laptop computers, etc.) with your driver's license or other owner-applied numbers.
  • Keep a written record of valuables, including descriptions and serial numbers. These are proof that the property is yours and will aid in the reporting process and recovery.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and always report missing or stolen property immediately. WSU Vancouver police will assist you in trying to recover your property.
