Decisions, decisions... they have dominated the news headlines in recent weeks. With the recent EU referendum, we were all required to make a decision, often in the face of conflicting information.

Of course, we all make decisions every single day of our lives, but as business owners, making the right decisions is absolutely crucial. Getting it wrong could have a detrimental effect on your business; get it right and customers could be queuing at your door.

One of the greatest skills business leaders can have is the ability to make effective business decisions. This does not necessarily come entirely naturally – good decision-making often boils down to a combination of knowledge, experience and intuition.

This does however require practice. Many of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs have made mistakes on their way up, but they’ve learned from them and moved on. They have struggled through their failures and made bad calls along the way but ultimately, they have found a solution.

President Roosevelt once said: “In any moment of decision, the best you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing and the worst thing you can do is nothing”. When it comes down to it, the right answer may not be clear but the only way forward is to take a deep breath and make a decision.

Whatever you decide as a business owner, it helps to keep your eyes on the prize and to be clear on your ultimate goals. Just like the world’s top athletes getting ready to compete at Rio with their focus on winning gold, the importance of having goals for your business cannot be overestimated.
