Engender at the Festival of Politics

Engender took part in the Festival of Politics last week with a discussion on quotas. We had a great panel with MSPs Sarah Boyack (Lab), and Clare Adamson (SNP), Lib Dem Candidate Katy Gordon and Nan Sloane from the Centre for Women and Democracy. Women's unemployment at 23 year high

Recent unemployment statistics are now revealing the effects of public sector cuts and benefit reforms on women, with more women now out of work that at any time since the late 1980's.

The Chartered Management Institutes annual salary survey found that not only were women bosses in Scotland paid an average of £10,000 less than male bosses, but female executives and directors were several times more likely to be made redundant than thier male counterparts..

March against the cuts on 1st Oct

Engender are supporters of the STUC 'There is a Better Way' campaign against the cuts and hope Engender members will join us on the march in Glasgow on October 1st. The People 1st march will bring together trade unions, equality, faith and community groups and anti-poverty campaigners to call for fair taxes and benefits, a living wage and decent services.
