Intro

The evenings may be drawing in but we’ve got lots of great news, and offers to brighten your day. The transformation of our new gyms at Bow Wharf and Lewisham is well under way. New equipment is coming soon to a gym near you and our new Group Exercise Manager, Kc, has arrived and is ready to pep up the timetable and Spinning makes its debut at Earls Court.

Plus we’ve got great offers on 6 weeks of boxing fitness and USN Hardcore Whey – and the members party is nearly here!

Happy November!

Looking good

It’s all coming together at Bow Wharf and Lewisham – soon we will be able to open up both gyms to everyone at Soho.

Their Soho transformation is underway and all will be complete by Christmas, giving you eight fantastic places to train.

Keep an eye on our website and the newsletter for progress updates.

Remember, remember 12th November

And we’re getting ready to work up a sweat over at Earls Court too. Refurbishment work start on 12th November, and includes a make-over for the studio, cardio room, weights room and changing areas, with extensive redecoration and lighting.

Plus we’re sprucing up the shower rooms with extra changing space and shower cubicles in the men’s area.

The gym will stay open throughout but the showers and studio will be closed for short periods whilst important works are completed. We are sorry for the limited service at times. Don’t worry though, Simon and his team will make every effort to keep delivering the great service you expect from Soho.

Warm up (or down)

Just in case you didn’t know already, the showers at Clapham have been upgraded to temperature controlled showers.

And also at Clapham, we have replaced most of our free weights and discs, added more Kettlebells as well as a few extra goodies including battle ropes and plyometric platforms.

You asked for it, we listened, we hope you enjoy.

Look out for brand spanking new free weights, discs, stretch and Yoga mats leading up to Xmas – including doubling up on Kettlebells at Clapham. And, some we’re trying out including battle ropes and plyometric platforms.

Say Hello to ‘Kc’

Our new Group Exercise Manager, Kc, has joined Soho and is raring to go.

Kc is a National Trainer for Les Mills and has been in the leisure industry for ten years, including teaching for Soho at Waterloo. He will be getting to grips with the timetables and provide classes for everyone, whether you want to keep healthy, have fun, lose weight, or get ripped!

First on Kc’s list is the debut of Spinning at Earls Court – launching on Monday 19th November with 15 Spin bikes, look out for the new timetable.

Kc knows his stuff but you attend the classes so he wants to hear from you before reviewing the timetables. Please spare the time to complete our quick online survey and give us feedback about your gym. We promise to do what we can. And as an added bonus we'll give those of you that complete the survey a free drink from our Cafe.

VAT-edious!

Some frustrating news: as you may know, VAT has now been added to sports nutrition products, which inevitably means their price has had to rise. We resisted for a month but sadly now the prices have to increase.

But it’s not all bad: not everything will have the full VAT amount added, as we’ve tried to absorb as much of the cost as we can, and we still have some great offers for you.

PERSONAL TRAINING
100% Tony

This month – rep research and a new angle on upright rows

Lift more weight with paused reps

Research is showing that you can do more reps and increase your weights during your workout if you pause regularly in the middle of your sets. Pause in the unloading part of the motion or rest the weight for 20 seconds, then continue the set. This will allow you to lift more weight, do more reps and work harder.

Shoulder friendly upright rows

At some time during training over 75% of us will have some rotator cuff problems. Incorrect upright rows can cause bad shoulder soreness, so to avoid this keep the bar close to the body and the elbows below 90 degrees – this will minimise stress on the rotator cuff and make the exercise safer.
