Hope Force Responds to Mississippi Tornado: Situation Report # 1

March 27, 2023

HFI Mississippi Tornado Response

On Friday evening, March 24th, a long track tornado was on the ground for almost 60 miles.  About 1% of tornados in the U.S. stay on the ground more than 50 miles, with the majority less than 4. Though towns are spaced out in this part of Mississippi, the fact that it was on the ground so long made it a tragic event for several communities. The cities of Rolling Fork, Silver City, Winona and Amory were impacted by the EF4 tornado, resulting in overwhelming property damage and the tragic reality of (currently) 26 deaths.

Hope Force Central US Director, Brian Wagner, has been surveying the damage across the various cities for the last two days.  The pictures and the stories from surviors are devastating; it is unimaginable what those impacted are going through at this moment.  The Ministry of Presence is so greatly needed.

Hope Force has a large number of Reservists throughout Mississippi and most recently, we conducted a training in Starkville, MS.  We are deploying our local Reservists, Hope Force staff and crew leaders from out of town.  We will be responding to this tornado in the Armory, Mississippi area.

We ask that you would please pray for the residents of Mississippi, knowing that tornados like this impact whole communities -- even if an individual's home is not hit.  Please pray for our team as they assess, engage with the community and serve people who have been directly impacted by this deadly tornado.

Would you also consider a financial donation in support of our response efforts?  Your gift will help enable our teams to effectively serve those impacted by this historic event.
