Dear ,

Term 3 is finally here and brings with it exams, assignments and thoughts of the future as well as the inevitable sun/showers/wind combination. For those preparing for exams please read our article on working smarter not harder. Don't be the student who wastes precious hours in the library because they aren't properly prepared in other areas. For those thinking further ahead make sure you are employment ready with a visit to the CareerZone. They can help and advise on application forms, CVs and covering letters and interviews.

We will have one more newsletter this year in June. If you are leaving us before then, we wish you safe travels and we hope you have found your time at Exeter a rewarding one, both personally and academically. Remember to keep in touch with us and each other through Alumni networks.

On a personal note, it's lovely to be back following my maternity leave and I'm sure you would all like to join me in thanking Zoe for all her hard work over the last year. Hasn't she been brilliant?

Working during your studies

We would like to remind students about the working regulations that surround students on a Tier 4 visa and the number of hours that a student can work. It is important to remember that if you have multiple jobs, this limit should not be exceeded even by a few hours as this can have serious implications on your Tier 4 visa status. Detailed information is available here.

Study smarter not harder

Yes, you need to put in the work but it's worth studying smarter not harder to get results! Follow the simple tips on the Study Smarter page and see the rewards.

  • Drink plenty of water and skip the caffeine drinks
  • Plan your meals to keep your blood sugar steady
  • Get enough sleep to help you make and keep memories
  • Avoid procrastination, revise in short effective chunks
  • Manage exam stress. Look at Wellbeing's advice
  • Talk it over
  • Relax with sport
  • Take regular breaks when revising and get some fresh air

And don't forget to check when your exams are and what you can and cannot take into the exam hall. Good luck everyone.
