Diabetes UK Lab Tour

More than 25 supporters and staff from Diabetes UK visited Professor Noel Morgan and his team in early February and spent a morning learning about the group’s latest research into the causes of type 1 diabetes. They toured the laboratory facilities in the RILD Building and the visit was followed by a Facebook live event in which Prof Morgan gave a virtual tour of the lab and answered questions sent in by on-line participants. So far, more than 8,000 people have watched the Facebook broadcast.

Dementia Roadmap

Professors Clive Ballard and Linda Clare have worked together with Alzheimer's Society to create a Dementia Care Road Map, which aims to put research on dementia care, prevention and diagnosis on an equal footing with research focused on finding a cure. Read more here.

Annual Research Event

We would like to thank all students and staff who attended, or otherwise supported, the Annual Research Event in Torquay last week. Delegates will be aware that the first day of the conference was highly successful, but unfortunately due to the adverse weather conditions, came to a premature conclusion on the Thursday morning. Although it was sad to be forced to make this decision, the safety of students and staff had to take priority.

We are sorry that some students were unable to present their talks on day two. This is a great pity as on day one of the conference there were some superb presentations of student research projects, in the form of both posters and talks. The presentation sessions were ably supported by the Chair persons. We would like to express our appreciation to all the judges of the posters and talks, and to the Postgraduate Research team.

WHO International Conference on Primary Health Care

Professor Jose Valderas attended the World Health Organisation's International Conference on Primary Health Care in Geneva last month. The Conference called for urgent and effective national and international action to develop and implement primary healthcare throughout the world and particularly in developing countries.

The event is the first of an ongoing series of informal Lunch and Learn networking sessions to provide support and helpful information for parents and carers across the University.

In order to have a successful relaunch and active network we need as many staff members to attend as possible to provide their thoughts on the shape, purpose and impact of the network.
