Research Successes

Dr Rajeev Kumar Pathak from the Heart Health theme’s Centre for Heart Rhythm Disorders group was awarded the prestigious Ralph Reader prize at the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ) annual scientific meeting held in Melbourne 14th – 16th August.   The CSANZ Ralph Reader prize recognises only the very best young cardiology researcher investigative work.  The title of his talk was Aggressive Risk factor REduction STudy: implications for the substrate for Atrial Fibrillation (ARRESTAF Substrate Study).  We would like to congratulate Rajeev on his achievement, well done!

Professor Andrew Zannettino was appointed to the role of Associate Dean of Research for the Faculty of Health Sciences and the University of Adelaide. PHCRIS Conference - Wellbeing Study

Members of the Wellbeing Study Team Elaine Kite, Carol Davy and Leda Sivak together with a number of Aboriginal Research Fellows from around the country including Jason Pitt, Tania Kelly, Shaun Jacobson, Maida Stewart, Gary Brahim Kesha Roesch were invited to hold a symposium at the recent Primary Health Care Conference held at the Adelaide Convention Centre, 29-31 July. Participants in this hour long symposium were provided with unique insights into how the Wellbeing Framework was developed by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Led by members of the research team, participants were then provided with an opportunity to consider how some of the principles could be applied in primary healthcare settings they were most familiar with.

Ms Elaine Kite, Maida Stewart and Gary Brahim were also invited to form part of the plenary panel focusing on collaborating with Indigenous communities to improve research outcomes.

Opportunities
Join the membership of SAHMRI Animal Ethics Committee

The SAHMRI Animal Ethics Committee is keen to receive applications from individual's with a scientific background interested in becoming a member of the committee.

This is a chance to make an important contribution to ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare at SAHMRI and a good way to become involved further in animal research. It is also useful for gaining experience in how AEC's operate.

The SAHMRI AEC meets every 6 weeks, for around 4-5 hours, and there is a small amount of work to be done by email in between meetings.

If you have an interest in joining the membership of the SAHMRI AEC, please send a short bio through to executiveofficer.aec@sahmri.com by Tuesday 1st September.
