Hey friends!

Back from my week in Seoul, I'm eagerly trying to catch up with work. Offscreen Issue No13 is about half-way there, with most of my deadlines coming up this and next week. Release is still scheduled for January 2016, but pre-orders will start next week. More updates soon.

I had a great time in Seoul and learned a lot about a very different culture. It was interesting to hear and see how Confucian principles like respect and modesty, and a well-establish social hierarchy still play a huge role in the workplace (and extend to private life too). It's almost impossible to compare that to how people in the West – and in particular in the web industry – collaborate and work together. It really made me understand why in countries like Korea or Japan startups have a whole other level of difficulty to overcome (which is why we don't see many such companies emerge from said countries).

On that note, enjoy this week's suggestions.

This Weekʼs Line-Up

An ergonomic rollerbar mouse
01

Yes, what you see here is indeed a mouse. I found out about Contour's RollerMouse through a friend last week who bought one to help with his RSI. I didn't get a chance to try it out, but he spoke highly of it. From the website: "a smart mouse designed for your body, with unparalleld precision, control and comfort." Sounds promising!

An intuitive approach to databases
02

I never thought creating and working with databses can be fun, but Fieldbook seems to have found a way. It's a fantastic way to quickly and easily to give spreadsheets a more intuitive interface that can be searched, filtered and interlinked. Make sure to check out the video to see what I mean.

An elegant aluminium pen
03

Baron Fig, the people who brought us the successfully Kickstarted 'Confidant' hardcover notebook, are at it again. This time they are creating a very sleek-looking pen made from aluminium. As you'd expect, they've already gone past $100K on their Kickstarter campaign.

A flat-file content management system
04

I've always been a big fan of what I call the Kirby approach to content management systems. Grav is another, recently launched file-based app to build simple website. With such a good-lookin' website it certainly makes a bold first impression.

A 'feel good' toilet paper
05

I've been waiting to be able to include this and their special Xmas edition just reminded me: Who Gives A Crap is one of my favourite Australian brands. The idea is simple: toilet paper made from environmentally friendly materials with 50% of their profits going towards building toilets in the developing world. Every office should have a subscription. As far as I can tell, it's only available in Australia so far, but sign up for their newsletter to find out when they expand internationally – which I'm sure is just a matter of time.

A(nother) task & project manager
06

Add Meistertask to the long list of apps competing in the to-do list and project management space. From what I can see on their website, its interface looks like a love-child of Trello and Flow. The deep integration with mindmapping tool Mindmeister adds a pretty unique feature, though.
