Campaign Update - Phil Twyford, Candidate for Te Atatu

Busway Now!

A common theme in my conversations with Te Atatu residents is how poorly served Te Atatu is by public transport. This is particularly unfair as 58% of Te Atatu residents travel outside West Auckland to work (often quite long distances).

We have decided to do something about it.

This month we will launch our "You'd be there by now" campaign to get better transport alternatives for Te Atatu residents. After consulting with experts, a business case has been drawn up and now we need your help to get Te Atatu moving.

Submissions on the Auckland Plan are due soon. We have drawn up a submission supporting our plan to create a North Shore- style busway. Click here  to help us get the Busway included in the Plan. Get you friends and family to submit too!

And Like our campaign on Facebook to keep informed of how you can help get Te Atatu moving.

Why is it important?

Huge growth is planned in the Northwest of Auckland, around Westgate. In the Auckland Spatial Plan the northwest contains both an emergent regional centre (Westgate) and a potential area of urban expansion in NorSGA.

Unless top quality public transport infrastructure is planned this risks becoming another example of Auckland’s failure to integrate transport and land use planning, with longer waits in traffic for Te Atatu residents

As petrol prices get higher and higher people will need alternatives. A dedicated busway offers a high quality alternative to residents who feel resigned to their cars for lack of options.

Get Involved!

You will hear alot more from us over this issue in the coming months. Te Atatu residents are sick of waiting in traffic and missing out on time with family and friends. Sick of the cost of petrol, parking and the stress it is putting on people's finances at a time when costs are skyrocketing.

The Busway will get you moving: between 7-9am 8000 people use the Northern Busway removing two entire lanes of traffic and getting everyone to work faster.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and views as we take this to local residents.

Kind Regards,

Phil Twyford

Labour Candidate for Te Atatu
