This month marks the centenary of Anthony Burgess's birth – and his dystopian novel A Clockwork Orange remains as poignant as ever. But while many are familiar with its themes of ultraviolence and brutal state control, says Philip Seargeant, what's even more intriguing is how the book was once drawn into the real world of Russian espionage, fake news and paranoia.
