PH 2nd Grade eNews

Wow - the students did such a great job at Christmas chapel! We are so proud of them!

It is hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner! We are working hard for the next few weeks before our break.

Academics

Bible - We will begin studying Nehemiah using chapters 1-3.
Memory Verse - Nehemiah 4:6, “So we rebuilt the wall until the entire wall was joined together up to half its height for the people had the will to keep working.”
Reading - We will read a biography of Helen Keller. We will continue to work on Main Idea.
Spelling - Our Spelling Pattern this week will be Final Stable Syllable for the next few weeks - Consonant LE. When you say and see the words such as nimble, bumble, ramble, the E is always silent and the L is preceded by a consonant. We will compare and sort closed syllable (jingle, tumble) with open syllable (table, stable)
Grammar - We will continue to work on irregular verbs. This week we will focus on using these correct verbs in a sentence: come/came, run/ran, see/saw, go/went
Math - We will continue to practice carrying to hundreds’ place, practicing time to five minutes, elapsed time, calendar, identifying missing numbers in equations, and liquid measurements such as cups, pints, quarts, and gallons.

Homework

Monday - Sumdog or 15 minutes practicing math facts
Tuesday - Read Helen Keller to an adult
Thursday - Study verse and spelling pattern

Important Dates

December 9 - PJ Day with tennis shoes for recess.
December 16 - Christmas and Pizza Party 12:00; Dismissal immediately following the party at 1:00 - No Extended Care; Please come to our classroom to be picked up.
December 19-January 2 - Christmas Vacation
January 3 - Students return to school!
