It’s hard to believe that 3 months of the school year are already behind us!  We are off to an incredible start this year at Akiva; our students are happy, settled and thriving with new academic challenges such as our new coding program and computer science curriculum.  As we move ahead with our school year and our focus on academic excellence, Akiva School is positioned as the Jewish Day School for the 21st century. I’d like to explain this focus in more detail…

Message from the President

Right from the start of the year, in true Akiva fashion, the school has been buzzing with activity, energy, passion and infectious enthusiasm…not to mention a bucket of ice water benefiting “ALS Israel”! With our family picnic, new family breakfast and APA launch, we started off the year welcoming our new and returning families and preparing ourselves for the wonderful year which lay ahead.

I am excited to share some of the wonderful events in the Jewish life and journey of the students at Akiva this year. We began with a wonderful Rosh Hashanah assembly led by Rabbi Scheier where all of our students heard the sounds and message of the shofar.

It is with great pleasure that I “officially” introduce myself to you.  It is hard to believe that I’ve been at Akiva for only a little over 3 months, when I already feel so at home here at the school.  A big part of this feeling is due to the incredibly warm reception that I have received.

Akiva Introduces a Fourth Language

New Akiva coding program launched

This year Akiva integrated software coding into our curriculum.  Students from Kindergarten to grade 6 now have the opportunity to explore different coding programs in which they are able to develop their problem solving and creative thinking skills.

Akiva's New Organic Garden

21st Century Learning Initiative

This past September, our grade 6 students launched a new leadership initiative at Akiva.  They helped set up, plant, and maintain an Organic Vegetable Garden.  

Grade 4 Grandparent Sukkot Event

Celebrating the holiday together

Grade 4 students enjoyed a real treat on during Chol Hamoed Sukkot on October 8th when their grandparents came to school to share in a special Sukkot holiday celebration with their grandchildren.
