DENISE RYLANDS

Denise Rylands

DENISE RYLANDS (née Bates)
25th January 1928 - 25th February 2012

Denise Rylands, or Denise Bates as she was in her days as a pupil at Moreton, died on Saturday 25th February 2012.

No single person in the history of Moreton has been as continuously closely associated with the school as Denise.

Arriving as a pupil in 1936, she attended her final Governing Council meeting in November 2011. As recently as last week, Denise was in contact, sending on a school diary found by Old Moretonian Judy Raschen (née Brooks).

Denise's contribution to the life of the school has been as a pupil, parent and Founder Governor. As an artist she painted the wonderful series of panels illustrating English proverbs that are displayed in the school dining room.

No record of her association with Moreton comes close to conveying the essence of Denise’s character and effervescent personality.

Her funeral will take place on Wednesday 7th March at 12.30 p.m. at St. Oswald’s Church, Malpas. If any Old Moretonian is planning on attending, could they please let Mrs. Mountford - Principal’s Secretary at Moreton, know by emailing her on mountfordk@moretonhall.com.

A Memorial Service at Moreton will be planned to take place later in the year.

On behalf of everyone associated with Moreton, Paula and I send our sincerest condolences to Tom, Mark and Ali.

Tributes will be paid in full to Denise in the summer Update magazine.
