Last Dinosaurs

Mojos, April 15 6pm

Mailout Soundtrack

Double pass to Last Dinosaurs at Mojos April 15 up for grabs.

Black Dice has a new album, it's particularly mad. Check the tune Pinball Wizrd from Ribbon Music's soundcloud page while you're with us.

Tahlia Palmer has turned the raw chauvanism of Bukowski's novel Women into a wide eyed acceptance of the true animalistic nature of our (humans) interactions & she does seem to be revelling in this.

Lyndon Blue reviews Tristen Fidler & Gulls presentation of zines, talks & live music performance. This all took place at Paper Tiger above Little Willy's on William Street.

Felicity Groom is home from tour, albeit briefly. While home she played the Blues & Roots Festival Sunday April 1st. Amongst other things, Felicity chats about the disturbing marvel that is Shane McGowan from the Pogues - who also played that day.

Sunday, April 15 at Mojos Bar see's Last Dinosaurs. These guys are blowing loads of people away. The first to respond here gets a double pass to see what all the fuss is about.

YESTERDAY'S GULLS @ PAPER MOUNTAIN, FRIDAY MARCH 30

While mentions of the “boom” have been thrown around in recent years like so many frisbees, the importance of digging hunks of stuff out of the ground is hardly new in our big western state. These days it’s all about the iron ore, but back in the bright-eyed, sepia-toned 1890s, the name of the game was gold. Entrepreneurs seeking their fortunes flocked to WA from all corners of the globe (does a globe have corners? anyway) – with swags on their shoulders, gold pan-sieves in their paws and dreams in their hearts. But out in the sun-parched goldfields, rain was scarce. You can’t spend too long prospecting without a sip of water; and you can’t sip if it doesn’t rain. So, gallons of aqua vitae would have to be carted from Perth to your pursed lips. Look out, here comes a non sequitur! DUCK!

On Bukowski, 'Women', Women and Freedom

I’ve been a book worm my whole life. Well, sort of. The last few years have been a little lacking in the reading department in comparison to the amount I would churn through as a teenager and as a child. Reading was more interesting than pretty much anything else, until I discovered escapism through other things- cinema, computer games, sex, booze. I still love to read a good book though, and now that I finally have some time to myself, I was able to sit down and read one in two days. The book was Bukowski’s “Women”. I swear I’ve read Bukowski before, but I can not for the life of me remember which book/s. It must have...

Felicity Groom: on tour

Greetings from Perth Home of the Blues and the Roots… and the festival

I am temporarily here between tour dates. Suspended mid animation. In the shape of a singer but carrying out the duties of my day job once again which is so far removed from the grand theaters and the riders that request white wine from only the Marlborough region.

It’s is a comfort and joy to be here in my home with the one I love and surrounded by the possessions I attach an over priced meaning to. It makes it hard to deal with the three weeks away still to come… yet the settling in process is akin to landing a 747.

You see, when I return to my humble home… I shuffle back into the job that provides me with an income… and that is child- care work. Children do say the darndest things (“I don’t like writing. It destroys our joy of life”, “you don’t get in trouble if you use ‘the force’ because they (the police) can’t see your hands on the other persons neck”)…

at the east end bar & lounge

If you haven't been to one before, here is a brief summary. You walk in and are handed headphones. With these headphones you have a choice of three different channels, all playing different music. Then you take the red pill.

Take the headphones off if you want to have a conversation/attempt to chat a girl/boy up. You don't have to shout in their face to be heard, and risk spitting on them, or be really seedy and put your mouth right next to their ear.

If you want to ignore someone, put the headphones on, dance like an idiot or just keep walking and you won't have to feel guilty as they will just think you couldn't hear them.

These things sell out, so buy a ticket or come early. Entry from 8pm. Sunday 8 April.  TICKETS

Tribute Night: New work by Patrick Miller

at ok gallery, northbridge

In his first solo exhibition Patrick Miller presents a body of work exploring the multilayered history of light: as a physical force, a cultural phenomenon and a philosophical proposition.

Tribute Night features a series of pieces that sit at the nexus of art and design and science and sentiment, shelves, tables and wall hangings that examine both literal and figurative illumination and reflection. From the proto-scientific alchemists in search of the philosopher's stone to the proliferation of contemporary designers producing countless boutique lamps, each of Miller's elegant, minimal and meticulously handmade objects is a dedication to those that have lit the way and allowed us to take the light home.

EXHIBITION RUNS: 29th March - 29th April, 2012
