The government has opened the debate on which European laws the UK should keep after Brexit by publishing a white paper on what it is calling the Great Repeal Bill. All EU law will be automatically incorporated into British law, but aspects of it could then potentially be amended or scrapped.
Environmental regulations are a particular pressure point and have previously been highlighted by Brexiteer Michael Gove as targets. Jeremy Robson, a law lecturer and keen birdwatcher, points out exactly how European law protects vulnerable birds and unique heathland – in Gove's own constituency.
The minimum wage increases tomorrow and among those looking forward to a pay rise are many people who work for some of the world's wealthiest football clubs. That's because only two Premier League clubs make it clear they pay all their staff and contractors a real living wage, based on what people actually need to live. Tony Dobbins and Peter Prowse have the story.
Smell is amazing. It can trigger vivid memories from our childhood and even predict dementia. Yet we understand a lot less about smell memory than we do about what we see and hear. But not for much longer, if Andrew Johnson has his way.
