Elevator maintenance to begin in Classroom Building Dec. 1
The third and final elevator scheduled for modernization is in the Classroom Building.
The project will begin Dec. 1 and is scheduled to complete on Jan. 16. Please remember to plan early for access accommodations. As soon as you identify an accessibility issue, call 6-9000 and report the situation. Every effort will be made to offer a reasonable accommodation. Here are some specific examples of things you can do and accommodations that can be arranged:
Study sessions, club meetings, events, meetings with faculty advisors and others: Contact the organizers to arrange for an accessible location.
Staff/faculty offices: Work with your supervisor to arrange an accessible work space or work remotely from home.
The elevator in the Library Building is currently undergoing modernization. That project is scheduled to wrap on Nov. 26.

WSU Vancouver accounting honor society receives ethics award
International accounting honor society Beta Alpha Psi has given one of four 2014 Ethics Awards to WSU Vancouver’s Nu Theta chapter. The $2,500 award encourages students to develop solid ethical values and empowers them to act on these principles when challenged. The prize money will be used for club activities including participating in other competitions, and attending national and regional meetings.
The Nu Theta chapter
submitted a peer-to-peer best practice titled “Making Ethics Part of Our Culture.” It is based on the Giving Voice to Values framework, which is integral to the accounting curriculum in the Carson College of Business. Incoming business students take a series of GVV workshops to develop an understanding of the ethical culture in the business program and to gain strategies for acting on their values.
Nu Theta members and candidates serve as peer coaches and mentors for incoming students, with guidance from Jane Cote, academic director for the Carson College of Business; and Claire Latham, associate professor of accounting. Student leaders were Keith Brub and Micah Elliott, both seniors majoring in accounting.
Beta Alpha Psi currently has more than 300 chapters in universities worldwide. Other recipients of the 2014 Ethics Award were Portland State University, Seattle University and the University of Massachusetts – Amherst. The award was sponsored by Grant Thornton, one of the world's leading organizations of independent audit, tax and advisory firms.

Brasure credited WSU Vancouver’s Mentor Analysis Program (MAP) for helping to bring the expansion idea to reality. The program, which Bleu Door participated in earlier this year, unites small businesses with student teams to develop customized financial, market and organizational analysis with growth action plans. “[The students] did a survey and found that so many people love to come here because it is different and unique,” she said. “They want to come here to support local.”
Wishram's shifting fortunes as a railroad town is a familiar story for Laurie Mercier, a history professor at Washington State University Vancouver. She has written extensively about towns built around one company or one industry. One interview with a Montana woman even included some details of life in boxcar housing.
