Spring 2016

Introducing our newest members to the Pennyroyal Farm Family......

Tilly and Tom....

Our gorgeous twins Tilly and Tom were born by surprise on the 15th of August sometime in the late afternoon. Thank you to Bree staying in Acacia Cottage who alerted us to their arrival. Bree actually watched their birth as well!

Mum and babies are doing fantastically and have been relocated to the "nursery" around the corner under the watchful eyes of Charlie and Bundy the Alpacas.  The twins will return to the Pennyroyal Farm when they are old enough to fend for themselves. Welcome to the Pennyroyal Farm Family Tilly and Tom.  Don't they just make your heart melt....

Out and About

BIRREGURRA

Birregurra is a gorgeous country town in Victoria. It is approximately 130 kilometres south west of Melbourne.  It is only a 10 minute drive from Deans Marsh and the Pennyroyal Farm Cottages.

Birregurra “Birre”, is renowned for its very fertile, arable soils.  The area produces some of the best beef, lamb and certified grass seed in the country.  With its historic main street, fabulous golf course and scenic vistas, “Birre” also boasts a cohesive community, vibrant art scene, a range of gourmet dining options and plenty of boutique accommodation.  Located in the foothills of the Otway Ranges “Birre” is where you will also find a warm welcome and good old fashioned country hospitality.

Birregurra Festival

Birregurra Festival started from humble beginnings as a fundraiser for the Primary School with the Art Show at the Anglican Christchurch bluestone church hall.  From there, other community groups got involved and the idea of closing the road and making the festival took hold.

Since those humble beginnings, the festival has blossomed into the country community event that it is today.

The cornerstone event of the festival, the Birregurra Art Show, soon out grew its home, moving from the church hall the much larger Mechanics Hall on Main Street. Entries expanded from a few to over 300 pieces of work including painting, pastels, drawings, photography and sculpture.

In more recent years, offerings of the festival have grown with the inclusion of the Food & Wine area as a ‘must see’ feature, the ever popular animal nursery, wood chop and dog jumping that contribute to the country feel of the festival.

With over 100 stalls, the festival takes on a vibrant market place feel where those who are interested can shop with either a small or large budget.

The festival, over the years, continues to help put Birregurra on the map for tourists—bringing a continued interest in the town as a holiday destination as well as a great place to live.

Great Ocean Roads Wild Weather...

A more than 50km stretch of The Great Ocean Road  between Moggs Creek and Skenes Creek was closed as a result of last weeks extreme weather.  Whilst most of the road has opened again, landslips and fallen trees are still a major concern for emergency services. The Great Ocean Road is still closed between Cumberland River and Wye River.  Wye River, savaged by bush fires last year, is suffering the affects of these road closures.

Pennyroyal Pet of the Season.........

Meet Bonnie! What a beauty she is! She is our Pennyroyal Pet of the Season!  Well done Bonnie! Thank you Frank and Sigrid for sharing her with us.

"We very  much  enjoyed  our  stay at Banksia Cottage.   The accommodation was  comfortable   and  relaxing   with    the tranquillity and peacefulness of the surrounding   bushland.   It was  lovely sitting by the warm and cosy log fire in the evening   while  the   wind and rain refreshed the countryside.

Our collie, Bonnie, enjoyed making the acquaintance of the cute, friendly goats and  playing  at the  dog-friendly beach near Lorne  and  then  lying  by  the fire with us at night."
