TTPN WEEKLY CONFERENCE CALL

ANNOUNCEMENT!
TTPN Weekly Conference Call

Sunday, March 15, 2015
4:00 PM EDT / 3:00 PM CDT

Call in number: (712) 432-0700 - Code: 637572#

Our Florida Legislators are in session for only about 60 days each year.  Hundreds of bills are filed and as the session progresses events move incredibly fast and sometimes are next impossible to keep up with.

If you have used the Florida website to track bills, you know how frustrating that method is also.

So in an effort to meet your wishes to have a better knowledge of what takes place at the Capital we are going to try something new and hold weekly Conference Calls.  On the call you will hear from our “issue partners” and/or others that have the inside track.

TTPN is working on several important bills this year.  These calls will keep all of us informed on legislation concerning Education/Common Core, 2nd Amendment legislation, property rights, etc. – These are the issues that we voted to concentrate our efforts on at TTPN’s Annual Meeting.

This is and open conference call and we encourage all of your members to join in.  The more on the call the better!

On our call this Sunday (the 15th), John Hallman from Liberty First Network and Dan Peterson with Coalition for Property Rights will be our first guests.

Use the call-in number and the code (above) to get connected!

Catherine Baer, TTPN Chair
TTPN Steering Committee

WEEKLY PHONE/WRITE ASSIGNMENT

The Winter Haven 912 Project is putting out a weekly assignment for its members on the current issues.  They have allowed us to share it with you.  (many thanks to Lane for finding this).  I am going to copy and paste part of it for us to work on this week - please take the time to make phone calls or write letters/emails!

Weekly Patriot Phone Network (PPN)*/Call/Write Issue Summary #7 – 03/12/15
Call/Email when you can but try to call on Weds. March 18 so our calls are collective and have more impact. *Dedicated to the memory of PPN founder Capt. Tom Williams – USNR (Ret)
After the Obama veto of the bi-partisan Keystone XL Pipeline Bill and the Senate’s inability to break a Filibuster and force a Cloture vote on H.R. 240 defunding a portion of the DHS supporting Obama’s illegal amnesty of 5M+ illegal aliens, you might be wondering why bother to make calls to your Congresspersons at this point. Your most sacred responsibility as a citizen is to cast informed votes and encourage your elected officials to be courageous and vote in the best interests of our country. If we give up and cave to the evil in our current government, our Constitutional Republic is lost. Short of implementing a revolution, we have no other way to influence the political process and the issues.
1. Urge your Congresspersons to oppose H.R. 5 No Child left Behind Reauthorization. The current NCLB legislation did not get voted on as thought last week.
2. Support Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Mich. Proposed Civil Asset Forfeiture Reform or FAIR Act. The Fifth Amendment Integrity Restoration Act addresses mounting concerns about the encouragement of corruption in law enforcement using the Civil Asset Forfeiture law in their budget process. Civil forfeiture without proof of criminal activity is a violation of the 5th Amendment.
3. Do Not Extend Obamacare Subsidies for 18 Months to Those in 34 States without an ACA Insurance Exchange. According to a Heritage Action source, this is being discussed by the House including Republicans concerned about the Case before the Supreme Court. If the case goes in favor of the Plaintiffs then these subsidies will be eliminated for approx 6 out of every 10 ACA recipients. Some Republicans may be more concerned about the voter backlash of this than the will of the people that their taxpayer funds should not be used for such subsidies.
4. Oppose H.R. 749 to reauthorize Amtrak funding. This bill is expected to be voted on soon. Amtrak is a for-profit corporation run by the US Govt. for purposes of providing rail service between cities. However, Amtrak has not made a profit since 1971 while receiving more than $65 B in taxpayer funded subsidies. This is a prime example of wasteful govt. spending of taxpayer funds. It should be privatized.
5. Remove John Boehner as Speaker of House and Mitch McConnell as Senate Majority Leader. They did not show the courage expected of them in leading their respective bodies with H.R. 270 to defund Obama’s amnesty program. Replace them with leaders with courage more concerned with what is best for America rather than their next election. Use a Vacating the Chair means in the House. This method requires only 1 person to put forward on the record and a simple majority to pass a resolution to “Vacate the Chair” of the Speaker of the House. The Senate is more complicated.
6 . Demand the release of the Bergdahl investigation and decision by the Court Martial authority. The evidence shows Bergdahl deserted in the face of the enemy and is possibly a traitor as well. A General Court Martial, Dishonorable Discharge, reduction to Pvt., loss of all back pay and prison time are definitely indicated in this case.

COMMON CORE LEGISLATION

Many thanks to Debbie Gunnoe for driving all the way from Navarre to bring us the history of the education system in our country and why we are where we are today!  She gave a great presentation and we really got a lot out of it.  There are several bills in Tallahassee this session that will help to slow down or strop the implementation of Common Core.  Please call your representative and Senator and ask them to co-sponsor this legislation.

Go to www.flsenate.gov  and look up the legislation:

SB 1496,  SB 1450  Assessments & Accountability; SB 1406 Education

Go to www.myfloridahouse.gov  and look up the legislation:

HB 1121, HB 877 Assessments & Accountability; HB 743 Education.

All of these bills need to go through several committees before they go to the full house and senate for a vote.  You can track these bills and contact the committee members as they are working their way through.  If you need any help with this, please call Sharon at 386-935-0821.

Representative Elizabeth Porter (850) 717-5010

Senator Charlie Dean  (850) 487-5005

ATTEND YOUR LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL MEETINGS

Please try to attend your County Commission and School Board meetings each month.  Many times we can stop things at the local level much more quickly than we can at the state or federal level.

Alert for Suwannee County residents - at the last County Commission meeting there was some discussion by our chairman of him curtailing the public comments portion of the meeting.  Please try to attend; many times it doesn't take anything more than a room full of people for them to realize that we hired them and we certainly can fire them when the time comes!
