We hope that you had a wonderful summer, and are rested and ready to meet the incoming and returning students! The names of your advisees have been entered into our systems, but because the system takes 24 hours to update, you may not see the names until later tonight or possibly Saturday. You should by now have already received their names and information via email in the form of a shared Google folder. Please check your email for this information, as we no longer use paper files. (For a refresher on how to use Student Planning, please review the Instruction Manual for Advising and Registration Systems - also found on the right side of the myBarnard portal under "Advising and Registration Resources"). Once you can see your advisees, feel free to email them to set up times to meet during Orientation or the first two weeks of class. You can also find additional advising information at the 2019-2020 Guide to Academic Advising. We also want to update you that, as you may have seen in President Beilock's recent email, there have been some changes to the way the Dean of Studies Office is organized. Our new Dean of the College, Leslie Grinage, arrived on campus this month. Dean Grinage — a liberal arts college graduate, native New Yorker, and first-generation college student — brings a wonderful breadth of experience to this vital role, having served most recently as Associate Dean of Students at her alma mater, Davidson College. Natalie Friedman, who served as Dean of Studies and Co-Interim Dean of the College this past year, will be stepping into a new, elevated role as Deputy Dean of the College. She will be primarily responsible for the Student Success (Opportunity) Programs, International Student Services, and a new area focused on Parent and Family Engagement, serving as the liaison for Barnard families (communicating with parents, as well as leading Family Weekend, workshops, and other efforts to support our families). Christina Kuan Tsu, dean for the sophomore class and transfer students, will take on the role of Interim Dean of Studies. Dean Kuan Tsu, who is a proud Barnard alumna and has worked at the College for 25 years, will work closely with the Provost’s office to help faculty advisers and students.
