National Campaign for the Arts issues sector-specific EU report

National Campaign for the Arts has launched a guidance document about the sector and its relationship to the European Union.

Chair Samuel West said he hoped it would “stimulate debate and encourage deeper thinking”.

It comes as Arts Council England has also published guidance outlining how funding for the arts can be connected to the European Union.

Creative arts re-engage offenders, report finds

Arts projects and performances are hugely popular among prisoners, staff and governors, and should be used to motivate wider learning, according to a new report.

NSPCC urges better mental health support for looked-after 'under 5s'

Despite increased recognition of the mental health problems suffered by young people in care, the charity says not enough consideration has been given to the impact of infant mental health. It has called for a rethink in how this group of children are supported, with more emphasis placed on offering help earlier.

The NSPCC has launched a campaign to improve mental health provision for looked-after children under five, and says more interventions are needed that focus on helping the child to form strong attachments with carers.

Museums & Heritage Awards for Excellence 2016 | Winners announced!

The winners of the Museums + Heritage Awards for Excellence were announced on the 19 May at a glittering, packed out, ceremony at 8 Northumberland.

The Awards are judged by a panel of the sector's leading lights including, Diane Lees, Director General, Imperial War Museum; Bernard Donoghue, Director, Association of Leading Visitor Atrractions (ALVA) and other leading sector professionals.

Youth Justice Board looks to access £200m social care innovation fund

“We are keen to support partners (including local authority, third sector or private sector) who are making innovative proposals that will improve delivery in youth justice and for which the YJB will be able to add value." (Youth Justice Board)

The call from the YJB comes after recent news of cuts for Youth Offending Teams (YOTs). Last month, the YJB confirmed that the annual grant it provides to YOTs has been reduced by 12 percent for 2016/17, a total cut of £9.1million.

State of the Art: analysing where art meets technology, using social media data

"This report uses data from the internet platform Meetup to assess activities at the interface of art and tech in the UK. The report identifies a number of technologies as involving the intersection of art and tech going forward. It analyses the geographic distribution of these groups around the country, the kinds of activities involved and how they are connected by people being members of groups in different domains."

Donmar's all-female Shakespeare Trilogy to give 1/4 of tickets away free to under 25s as part of 'Young and Free' campaign

The Donmar Warehouse is building a temporary theatre for an all-female Shakespeare trilogy that will see, on some days, Dame Harriet Walter performing the demanding roles of Brutus, Henry IV and Prospero back to back.

"Trailblazing" agreement to get more students involved in the arts

De Montfort University are to work with Arts Council England, artists and arts organisations, to improve the quality and quantity of arts and culture across Leicestershire. They hope to open up more opportunities for students to get involved in the arts, improve cultural education for young people and promote graduate retention.

Youth groups honoured with Queen's voluntary service award

Youth groups across the country are among nearly 200 recipients of the Queen’s highest award for voluntary service.

For voluntary organisations, the awards are seen as the equivalent of an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire), which is given to individuals through the Queen's honours system.

The Space: next commissioning round open now

The Space have just launched their latest commissioning round, with a focus on "driving greater access to the arts for wider audiences, and supporting a diversity of creative talent and projects". 

The round is open to UK-based arts and cultural organisations and artists. The deadline for applications is Monday 25th July, midday BST.
