2023 Honorees

CPC Queens Legacy Award – Lois C. Lee, Former Director of Lois C. Lee Early Childhood Center

Lois C. Lee devoted 52 years to the field of education. Her journey started at CPC in Chinatown, where she served as a part-time teacher. During this time, she also worked in public and private schools. In 2017, CPC Lois C Lee Early Childhood Center was named in her honor.

She participated in City Council hearings and shared her expertise in New York State Assembly/Senate briefings on Education Reform. As Vice President of Early Childhood on the Council of Supervisors and Administrators Advisory Committee, she held a prominent position in shaping educational policies.

Lois's legacy shines through her compassionate nature, instilling hope and serving with joy. She left an indelible mark on countless children, nurturing their growth. She also played a vital role in mentoring volunteers, providing support to parents, and training educators. Additionally, Lois championed the immigrant community, tirelessly working to close the achievement gap and promote the holistic development of children and families.

CPC Queens Community Service Award – New York City Councilmember Sandra Ung

Sandra Ung represents the 20th District, which includes Flushing, Mitchell-Linden, Murray Hill, Queensboro Hill, and Fresh Meadows.

Upon taking office in January of 2022, Sandra committed herself to expanding language access so that residents with limited English proficiency can be active participants in government and civic life. During her time in office, she has passed ten bills and resolutions, including legislation to improve access to interpreters for callers to 311, a bill to require translation into languages not included in the language access law, and legislation to enhance language access for small business owners.

A lifelong community advocate, Sandra has served as Executive Director of the At the Table PAC, a political action committee dedicated to expanding women and minority representation in politics.
