News, views and analysis from the A/NZ tech sector No images? Click here Hi there, There’s been a dearth of IPO activity on the NZX, so news that Vocus Group has engaged financial advisors to prime its Kiwi business for a new listing will no doubt be heartily welcomed by the local stock exchange. It follows Vodafone’s plans last year to float it’s local business – a plan that ultimately failed to come to fruition, with the company instead sold to Infratil and Brookfield Asset Management. Vocus (NZ) – the country's fourth largest telco – has had a long and winding road attempting to find new ownership: It was put on the block back in 2017, but despite plenty of talk, and a shortlist of buyers including Vodafone and 2degrees, a sale failed to eventuate at the asking price. Private equity plans also fell over, so it remains under its ASX-listed owner of the same name, which may pose some naming challenges for the proposed dual NZX/ASX listing. Vocus Group's kiwi brands (CallPlus, Slingshot, Orcon and Stuff Fibre among them) will be hoping this time the winds are more favourable to get the deal closed, even if the cash is destined for fibre investments in Australia.
