Click here December 2020 Impact Newsletter 89% of CPC Youth Accepted to SUNY University at Buffalo During Instant Decision DayOn December 10th, CPC hosted its 4th Annual University of Buffalo Instant Decision Day. Unlike previous year's, this event was held virtually with the University's counselors and 89% were admitted instantly. Students were provided an opportunity to speak with admission counselors one on one and were given additional guidance with their application.EDUCATIONWe provide high-quality learning opportunities for all ages—from Pre-K and after-school enrichment to adult English language classes—because education is lifelong. Congratulations to Community Members Who Passed Their Naturalization ExamsWhile we acknowledge the history of naturalization exams as an institutional barrier for immigrants, CPC Brooklyn Community Services' Opportunity Center congratulates our community members who have passed their exams. Ms. Wu and Mr. Weng participated in our classes and were sworn in as U.S. citizens in late 2020. CPC Family Child Care Network Celebrates Family Histories and HolidaysAs a holiday family engagement activity, parents and children of CPC Family Child Care Network were encouraged to create a world of hand prints by tracing their hand on paper, drawing their countries’ flags on the palms, and writing down the cultural holidays they celebrate on the fingers.FAMILY SUPPORTWe make it easier for individuals and families to access personalized social resources because support is fundamental at every age. Books and Meals for CPC School-Age Child Care Center at PS 153 Students and families of CPC School Age Child Care Cesnter at PS 153 Homecrest in Brooklyn received 250 meals from Send Chinatown Love over the holidays. Ninety-six copies of "B is for Boxing" were donated by Boris Noble with the Salita. Thanks to our generous donors! TJH International Corp Donates Thousands of Masks to CPC Community Members and Staff Thank you to T.J.H. International Corp. for their generous donation of 210,000 KN95 masks to CPC community members and frontline staff to keep them protected. CPC Brooklyn Community Services Brightens the Holidays Despite not being able to see our community members in person due to the pandemic, the CPC Brooklyn Special Needs Program brightened the holidays for our most underserved members by delivering toys and gifts to their homes. CPC Brooklyn Community Services also held a virtual celebration for our senior members sponsored by Humana on December 23rd. COMMUNITY & ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENTWe empower New Yorkers to represent and to advocate for themselves and their communities because their leadership is essential for positive—and lasting—social change. We engage with individuals to plan and develop their career paths because professional success is critical for economic independence. CPC Speaks at Test & Trace Roundtable About Resource Navigator Program CPC's Suzan Lam spoke about the resource navigator program on December 16th at a NYC Test & Trace roundtable. Suzan has been working as a resource navigator, supporting those who have tested positive on how to quarantine safely. CPC Statement on the Riots at the Capitol In the wake of the riots at the U.S. Capitol, CPC is grateful that elected officials and their staff are safe and sends our best wishes to them and their families. The last four years of hateful and bigoted policies, as well as the blatant denial of Presidential election results for the last couple months, lead to this moment. Read the complete statement here. CPC Quoted in City & State on Vaccine Equity CPC President and CEO Wayne Ho was quoted in a City & State article about New York State's plan to distribute vaccinations to the public.
