Common Core, High Stakes Testing, Other Educational Issues to Be Addressed at Upcoming Meeting

Join us at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2015 for our monthly meeting.  This month's guest speaker will be Debbie Gunnoe from Navarre, Florida.  Debbie retired from the US Air Force in 2008 as a lieutenant colonel. For 28 years, she willingly gave up a portion of her Constitutional right of free speech in order to serve her country...she couldn't publicly speak out against her government or commander-in-chief. But she took an oath to protect and defend the US Constitution...an oath without an expiration date, and one she took seriously. So after the sharp socialist shift following the 2008 election, she became earnestly involved in the conservative grassroots movement to save the Constitution and thus our country.

Debbie will be speaking on the history of Outcome Based Education and why we are where we are today with our Educational system.  She will give us a good background in what is going on along with the solutions that we can work on.

This is an issue that affects all of us; please make a special effort to make it to this meeting.  Invite your friends and neighbors!

We meet at the Taylor Building, 128 SW Birley Road, Lake City,  This is on the corner of U.S. 90 and Birley Road, approx. 3 miles west of the I-75 interchange in Lake City.  For more information, please call 386-935-0821.

Constitution Class - Part 3

The Constitution Is The Solution
Fixing America Starts With Education

Most Americans are not taught what’s in the Constitution, nor are they aware of its limitations on government that have helped make America great. The John Birch Society has a new series of DVD’s for you to learn how the Constitution was intended to secure rights, not to enable the federal government to infringe on those rights.

You are invited to attend a six-part workshop based on these DVDs that will provide you with a practical common sense understanding of how the Constitution was intended to limit the government, not the citizens. This understanding will equip you to work with others to solve many of the problems Americans face every day that were created by Big Government.

This series will be held at the Lake City Baptist Temple*, 3161 SW State Rd 47; approx.. ½ mile north of the I-75 interchange on Hwy 47 (exit 423).  Lesson 3** will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9th.  Lesson 4 will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17th. *The Baptist Temple is right next door to the Nazarene Church on SR 47*

The lessons will include: 1) The Dangers of Democracy, 2) Enumerated vs. Unlimited Power, 3) Constitutional Economics, Constitutional Money, 4) Constitutional War Powers and the Enemy Within, 5) Exposing the Enemies of Freedom and 6) Restoring the Constitution, Taking Effective Action.

Everyone is invited; this series is great for young and old alike. We all understand that our country is heading in the wrong direction but we cannot fix what we don’t understand! Please make an effort to come out for this enlightening series. For more information, please call Richard Heston, 386-984-0077.

**If you missed Lessons 1 & 2 and are interested in watching these, they will be made available for you.

Common Core Legislation

There are several bills that have been introduced in Tallahassee this session dealing with Common Core and High Stakes Testing.  We will be furnishing more information as these bills make their way through the committees.  We will be asking you to make phone calls and encourage our legislators to work on this issue.  This is one of the most important issues for this session.  As you find information that needs to be passed on to our members, please let us know!

Liberty First Network is following these bills and will furnish us with updates throughout the session.  Go to their website:  http://libertyfirstfl.org/  to stay updated on the issues.    Their recommendations so far are:

1. Call your district Representative and ask them to co-sponsor HB 743 and HB 877. If you do not know your state Representative, click here.

2. Call Representative Janet Adkins and ask that HB 877 be put on the calendar for the House K-12 Subcommittee

Rep Janet Adkins / (850) 717-5011 / janet.adkins@myfloridahouse.gov

3. Call Representative Manny Diaz and ask that HB 743 be put on the calendar for the House Choice and Innovation Subcommittee

Rep Manny Diaz / (850) 717-5103 / manny.diaz@myfloridahouse.gov

4. Call your district Senator and ask them to co-sponsor SB 1450 and SB 1406. If you do not know your state Senator, click here.

5. Call Senator John Legg and ask that SB 1450 and SB 1406 be put on the calendar for the Senate Committee on Education Pre-K – 12

Senator John Legg / (850) 487-5017 / legg.john.web@flsenate.gov

All of this legislation has been filed, but has not begun the committee process. As in all legislation, it can change as it goes through the legislative process in a negative or positive manner. It’s upon us to stay vigilant and keep the pressure on our legislators to do the right thing for our students in Florida. The Liberty First Network will keep you up-to-date on how these pieces of legislation move and change through the process and what you can do to keep them on the right track. Gun Raffle - Fundraiser/American Patriot News

We have begun our yearly gun raffle and can use help in selling tickets!  This is our main fundraiser for the year and helps pay our expenses.  We will have tickets available at our meeting.  If you would like toget some ahead of time, please call John (386) 935-1705 or Sharon (386) 935-0821. Please plan on taking some tickets and selling them!  Also, if you know of a small business that would allow us to put a flyer and some tickets, please let us know!

Our biggest expense is printing the American Patriot News every two weeks.  Paper and toner are expensive and we have to buy parts for the machines every so often!  We think this is a worthwhile endeavor in order to get out information in our communities.  If you would like to read this issue of the APN, click HERE;   If you would like to receive the APN by email every two weeks, email shiggins@windstream.net and request it.  Occasionally we have printing problems and aren't able to get all of them printed for all the areas.  Please know that we do the best we can and appreciate all the help we have in getting this done!

Congressman Ted Yoho

U.S. Representative Ted Yoho will be in our area this week if you get a chance to go to see him.

From Heritage Foundation:

The Republican Establishment is attacking Rep. Ted Yoho.
A pro-amnesty group with close ties to House Republican leadership, Karl Rove and the Republican National Committee is attacking your Representative for trying to stop Obama’s unconstitutional amnesty.
Last year John Boehner, Karl Rove and the entire Republican Party campaigned on stopping Obama’s dangerous amnesty, but when they actually had to stand up to Obama -- leadership turned their backs on their constituents.
Rep. Yoho stood on principle to keep this campaign promises. But the Republican Establishment decided to attack conservative lawmakers who are saying “NO” to Obama’s executive amnesty with negative ads.
Rep. Yoho is fighting for the Constitution AND our national security by opposing Obama’s dangerous amnesty. Join Heritage Action in thanking him for standing firm.

Mayo, Florida:

Rep Yoho will be our speaker at the Lafayette REC meeting on Monday March 9, at 6pm, at the Mayo Community Center, 150 NW Community Circle, Mayo.

Everyone is invited, we will conduct a couple of items of business (about 10 minutes), and Rep Yoho will have the remainder of time for updates and answers to questions.

Trenton, Florida:

On Tuesday, March 10, 2015 Congressman Ted Yoho is be the guest speaker at the Gilchrist County Tea Party Meeting.  Congressman Yoho will explain the latest actions that Congress is taking on the issues that are most important to all of us.

One thing for sure, Congressman Yoho has made himself available to the public, more than any other politician.   He has always allowed the public an opportunity to address all the issues and give their opinion on how he should view matters of vital importance in Washington DC.

Of major concern are issues on how to handle ISIS; how to deal with Educational Bills; the Funding of DHS and immigration; how to get back on a funding track using the budget process.  These and many other issues are not only important to him, but in order for him to do a good job he needs to hear from you.

Please mark you calendar and plan to attend the Gilchrist County Tea Party meeting at 7 P.M. on Tuesday March 10, 2015.  We meet at the County Commission Chambers, just south of the Courthouse on U.S. Highway 129 and S.E. 1st Avenue in Trenton, Florida…..If you need directions please call Charlie Perez at (404) 312-8566.  This is one block south of the traffic light in Trenton.
