Klicking goals

We’re not usually boastful but we’re smashing it out of the park this month. Well, two of us certainly are - our awesome Director Kim McKay just took out the B&T 2014 Women in Media Award (PR), while Klick’s whiz kid and resident fast-talker Margarita Peker brought home the trophy for the B&T 2014 30 Under 30 Award (Marketing + PR).

Our hats have been firmly off, for the last couple of weeks to these two incredibly talented women. And forgive the mushiness, but they are an inspiration to the rest of the team here and we’re going to let out our inner cheeseball and let you guys know it. Well done chicas. *Standing ovation*

Country hospitality hits the coast

They came, they drank and they grazed. Our fave North Shore event, the Mudgee Wine & Food Festival at Balmoral Beach, proved again to be a hit for the 24th year running.

Thousands of thirsty Sydney-siders avoided the sweat of the City2Surf last Sunday to experience liquid of a much more palatable style – the delicious wine of the Mudgee Region. Not one to turn down a glass of anything really, Klick hosted media and guests for a series of new food and wine matching sessions called ‘Graze Mudgee’.

Given an opportunity to meet some of the best winemakers of the region, guests munched their way around the Graze Mudgee marquee, chowing on delicious morsels of seasonal produce by Mudgee caterer Rachael McCarthy expertly coupled with Mudgee wines.

The festival hits the quarter-century mark next year, which is as good a reason as any to make sure you get down there. Better yet, head to the Mudgee Region to experience the real deal.

Serious Whisky Business at Saffire

Did you know that Tassie has some of the very best whisky in the world?

Saffire Freycinet will host ‘Whisky Business’ from 29-31 August to celebrate and share the local whisky offering from top notch Tassie distillers, including Bill Lark from Lark Distillery, Patrick Maguire from Sullivans Cove Distillery and Jane Overeem from Overeem Distillery.

The best bit? The whisky will be paired with a bespoke menu from Saffire’s incredible chef, Hugh Whitehouse. With activities including helicopter rides to Lark’s peat bog, mingling with the distillers and never-ending tastings, this promises to be a one of a kind weekend that you won’t forget anytime soon!

Dedicated whisky lovers can enquire about availability here.

RiseForAlex

It’s not everyday that you get to be part of a key moment in sporting history, but that’s exactly what happened when we took on the launch of the RiseForAlex Fund.

The RiseForAlex Fund was established to provide ongoing financial and medical support to critically injured Newcastle Knights forward, Alex McKinnon. In March this year Alex fractured his C4 and C5 vertebrae in a career ending and life changing tackle while playing against the Melbourne Storm. Since then Alex has made progress in his recovery, regaining some feeling in his arms.

With the support of the NRL and the clubs, the RiseForAlex Fund dedicated Round 19 of the NRL game schedule to Alex; renaming it RiseForAlex Round. A dollar from every ticket sold was donated by the NRL as well as significant donations from the public and corporate sponsors.

The lead up to the round saw the Rugby League community band together to support one of their own. Channel Nine’s The Footy Show dedicated an entire episode to Alex McKinnon, while partner Telstra organized a call centre to take public donations. Coupled with the generous public donations, the RiseForAlex Round was a huge success.

While the RiseForAlex Round is now over, Alex still needs the support of the community on the long road ahead. Donations can still be made at riseforalex.org.au.

Turning up the heat in Bali

There’s nothing we love better than tantalising our travel tastebuds, and and this month we did just that by launching Marriott International's second property in Bali: Courtyard by Marriott Bali Seminyak.

The 290-room hotel is a slice of paradise located smack bang in the heart of bustling Seminyak, close to the beach. The hot property offers a range of rooms with private balconies or terraces, a large lagoon-style pool plus a 24-hour fitness centre.

Dreaming of your next getaway? Us too. Check out their amazing opening offers here.

In the know

  • Instagram competes with Snapchat with its new fast direct messaging app called Bolt. In just one tap, Bolt takes and sends your photo. Maybe too fast?
  • Foursquare has had a complete makeover. Removing its 'checking-in' feature entirely, it will now focus on learning what you like and lead you to places that you'll love. For those still wanting to use the app's old features, don't be alarmed, Foursquare has created Swarm to take over.
  • Facebook still has its head in the game and won't give up. Check out its bookmarking feature called Save.
