Good news for foodies: Downtown Restaurant Week is coming!

Downtown OKC, Inc. and the Oklahoma Gazette present Downtown Restaurant Week January 20-26. That's right - downtown OKC is about to turn into a paradise for foodies.

During Downtown Restaurant Week, several local eateries team up to create special prix-fixe menus that feature delicious items you won't see on their regular menus. Each meal is offered at a fixed price: $35 per person for dinner and $12 per person for lunch. And it's all for a good cause!

As a bonus, everyone who completes a comment card after their meal will be entered to win cool prizes like restaurant gift cards. For every comment card you complete, Downtown OKC, Inc. will donate $1 to the City Rescue Mission Impact Hunger Food Resource Center, up to $10,000!

Kitchen No. 324 opens in downtown OKC

Residents, visitors and employees in downtown Oklahoma City have a new option for breakfast and lunch with the opening of Kitchen No. 324, a seasonally inspired café, craft bakery and coffee curator serving American rustic cuisine. The restaurant is located on the first floor of the historic Braniff Building. Kitchen No. 324 is named for the address of the Braniff Building, 324 N. Robinson.

“Kitchen No. 324 is the downtown address for fresh,” said Keith Paul, owner of Good Egg Dining Group. “The restaurant is a mix of both modern and classic, in the menu offerings and the design and décor of the space. We want to respect the history of the Braniff Building for which Kitchen is named, but add a contemporary feel, as well.”

The restaurant includes a 3,000 square-foot café, bakery and coffee curator, serving inventive breakfast entrees, baked goods, fresh fruit and vegetable juices and gourmet donuts, along with lunch fare, including handmade sandwiches, house-cured meats and colorful, out-of-the-ordinary salads. The coffee bar serves local and artisan coffees, and the bakery sells specialty breads, pastries and desserts.

Kitchen No. 324 is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, visit kitchen324.com.

OKC Philharmonic presents Pristine Visions

In last week's newsletter, we announced that on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 8 p.m., the Oklahoma City Philharmonic will present Pristine Visions - featuring a performance by guest violinist, Stefan Jackiw. The OKC Phil recently reported that due to a treatable injury, violinist Stefan Jackiw will not perform, but will be replaced by Japanese-American violinist, Ryu Goto.

"We are excited to announce that we have secured the services of violinist Ryu Goto to appear at our concert," said Eddie Walker, Philharmonic Executive Director. "He's considered a 'superstar' in Japan and is just starting to build his international career," said Walker. Goto will perform the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the OKC Philharmonic.

Goto has established himself as a significant voice in classical music, with a large and growing public in Asia, North America and Europe. Ryu's career began at age seven when he made his debut at the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan, playing Paganini's Violin Concerto No.1. Since then, Ryu has appeared as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, ensembles including National Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic, Wiener Symphoniker, European Union Youth Orchestra, China Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

How do those new parking meters work anyway?

With the addition of more than 600 on-street parking spots resulting from downtown street renovations, the Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority (COTPA) is phasing out the mechanical meters for a more advanced “pay station” in the downtown area. As many as 125 multi-space, solar-powered pay stations that accept U.S. coins or debit/credit cards are being installed in the new streetscaped Project 180 areas.

If you've seen the new meters, but are still confused about how they work, check out this funny instructional video made by COTPA. It'll clear things right up!
