The WALK FOR EPILEPSY is in October No images? Click here Hi Friend, Welcome to Brainwaves. There has been an increase in activities across the organisation which is great to see. The National Assistance Card is a personalised card to assist people with disability and health conditions in the community. It helps cardholders communicate their unique areas of difficulty and the assistance they may need. Epilepsy Tasmania and the National Assistance Card Service are conducting a short survey to determine the level of interest in the National Assistance Card by people living with epilepsy in Tasmania. Here's the link to do the survey surveymonkey.com/r/epilepsy_EOI_NationalAssistanceCard You can also visit nationalassistancecard.com.au for more information about the National Assistance Card. Finally, please consider the Walk for Epilepsy during October and register to walk, run, swim or ride. As always, get in touch if you would like to discuss anything. Warm regards Wendy Groot, CEO Epilepsy Tasmania. Walk for Epilepsy - 1 to 25 October 2022Every 33 minutes, an Australian is diagnosed with epilepsy. Although epilepsy is one of the most common brain conditions worldwide, there is still a lot of misunderstanding about what it’s like to live with epilepsy. Job Vacancy - Outreach Education / Training WorkerEpilepsy Tasmania needs to fill an important role within the organisation. It's based in Launceston but often requires travel throughout Tasmania. Peer Support GroupsIt has been great meeting with our Peer Support groups all throughout winter giving them the chance to express and work through the ups and downs of life with epilepsy. These Peer Support groups, for adults with epilepsy and carers, meet on a regular basis in Launceston and Hobart. This gives people living with epilepsy, or families and carers of people with epilepsy, a chance to share ‘like experiences’ thus normalising their sometimes complex journey of epilepsy. Epilepsy can be a very confronting and private journey, given the impact it can have on memory, work, loss of licence and as such independence, relationships and more. You may not feel that you are ready or would feel comfortable discussing these things in front of others, so please always remember that we offer individual peer support. If you are interested in joining one of our groups or accessing our service individually, please contact Amy, our Peer Support Coordinator.
