Message from the Principal

What a night! Thank you for the wonderful community support so in evidence at Celebration Night for 2014. The variety of student talent on display was remarkable, through from our youngest school students through to the Class of 2014. It was an evening memories are made of.

Extraordinary talent in the visual arts was also showcased this week in Brimacombe Hall, where our Arts Show was officially opened by Jack Hibberd the renowned Australian playwright. Every year I marvel at the richness and individuality of students exploring issues through visual expression. We pay tribute to the teaching and preparation which contributed to the success of the show.

And to finish Arts Week, as I type, the final chords of the Rocktober Concert are fading away. We were blessed with beautiful weather and fantastic music.

It was standing room only at Grandparents and Friends Day yesterday in Junior School, and the College was delighted to welcome so many family members to share our education experience. Thank you grandparents for coming along and sharing the day!

Our Class of 2014 have begun their final exams, with performance subjects and orals now completed. The written exams begin on Wednesday and I know the whole Kingswood College community wishes every Year 12 student the best opportunity to share their knowledge.

Elisabeth Lenders
Principal

Year 12 - Final Day

The Class of 2014 concluded their classes last week in a fashion that has certainly set a new standard in Senior School celebrations. The theme days prior to their final assembly were full of good cheer, genuine care for each other and their teachers. More importantly, the sentiments expressed to their final assembly on Wednesday by a variety of speakers epitomised the regard these students have for their College. Many expressed their gratitude for their time at Kingswood College; our tribute to them at Celebration 2014 was fitting –
‘I heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason, bringing something we must learn. And we are lead to those who help us most to grow, if we let them, and we help them in return.’
The written exams now loom large, starting next week and going through until 19 November, when we shall formally say goodbye to the Class of 2014 at their Valedictory Dinner that evening. We wish each student the very best for their exams and into the future.

Robyn Giles
Head of Senior School

Our captains also did a magnificent job in introducing the 2013 Dux, Sheryl Ding as well as the Junior School performance from Kids at Sea. Thank you to all who attended. I hope you enjoyed the evening as much as I did.

Your Parents and Friends Association

Last Sunday approximately 50 members of our College community participated in our inaugural Barefoot Bowls afternoon.  The weather was kind to us and a great time was had by all as we enjoyed learning new skills, engaging in some friendly competition and a terrific BBQ put on by the members of Bennettswood Bowls Club.  Thank you to Jodie Kerr for organising this fun activity and for the members at Bennettswood for taking the time to teach us how to bowl and for ensuring that we were well looked after and that we enjoyed our afternoon.

Our next PFA meeting will be held on Tuesday 28 October in the Cato Centre at 7.30pm.  Our speaker this month is Paula Holmberg who will speak on childhood health and nutrition.
