From the Director...

Jennifer McCaul

It's hard to believe that another academic year has almost come to an end! Since the last newsletter, our office has been busy working with students as they plan and register for their next year or in some cases prepare to leave GVSU and take the next step in their professional journey. In the past 6 weeks, our office had over 600 scheduled advising appointments with students, answered over 2500 phone calls and replied to over 1500 emails. We also held two Saturday Express Advising Events where another 25 students were assisted. A very hearty thank you to the CCPS Undergraduate Advising Center staff for another registration season well done!

I would like to take this issue of the newsletter to celebrate our two graduate student advisors and the amazing work they are doing with students and for the academic advising profession. Please read on for more about their recent accomplishments. Please join me in congratulating Leah and Theresa on their successes.

I would also like to welcome a new advisor to our staff, Amanda Clark. She returns to GVSU after completing her masters degree at the University of South Carolina. Please see below for more information about Amanda.

The College of Community & Public Service will be going live with usage of the EAB/Student Success Collaborative in the fall semester. Unit heads and program coordinators have had several meetings to review the tool and we are excited about what this tool brings to the conversation about student success at GVSU. You are all invited to learn more about the tool in the information below.

We are also gearing up for summer orientation season where we will be working with other GVSU faculty and staff to welcome thousands of new students to GVSU, while also continuing to work with our current students to make sure they are all set for 2014-2015.

We will have one more newsletter before we take a break for the summer, so look for the final issue for this year on May 5th

Nancy Giardina, Vice Provost for Student Success presented to the CCPS unit heads and program coordinators about CCPS's participation in the Student Success Collaborative last week. This collaborative provides another tool for faculty and staff to provide information to students about their performance and timely progression to degree by using predictive data analytics. Faculty and staff are encouraged to learn more about the collaborative and to sign up to delve deeper into the research library that is available to all members of the collaborative. Additional information will roll out to CCPS faculty and staff as we move forward with implementation over the summer. Please look for this information late summer or early fall.
