Thursday, March 30, 2017 Understanding the Environmental StakesMedia Fellowship Laws passed almost five decades ago form bedrock protections for water and air quality and wildlife and public lands in the United States. What will happen to the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act and more in the coming years? In a four-day training program for journalists, we will look at proposed budget cuts and how changes at the Environmental Protection Agency and elsewhere could affect the environment. We’ll look at rules and regulations that could be rolled back, water use out West, the latest scientific research on the environment, and the outlook for clean energy and climate treaties. We’ll show journalists how to find and use the best data to underscore their reporting on the environment. Training: June 18 - 21, 2017 Funding for this training was provided by Walton Family Foundation When Journalism Becomes the Story: The National Press Foundation is joining forces with the National Press Club Journalism Institute to host a half-day symposium on Wednesday, April 19 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Club’s Murrow Room. Panelists will include beat reporters and industry leaders. The goal is to help the working press learn to navigate the treacherous landscape facing us today. The symposium is open to the public and requires registration. Tickets are $5 for NPC members and the general public. REGISTER or MORE INFORMATION Using C-SPAN's Video ArchiveThe programming across three C-SPAN channels covers all things Washington, and it’s all archived, searchable and clip-able, so reporters can use a politician’s own words – on video – in their stories. Jeremy Art, a social media senior specialist at C-SPAN, gives a tutorial on how to embed video from this valuable archive. On-Camera Do's and Don'tsIt might seem like a simple two-minute TV spot – but that also means you don’t have much time to make a good impression. A veteran television news producer and NPF board member, Heather Dahl, helps train people get their message across on TV. She recently shared her expertise with the Paul Miller fellows – most of whom are print and online reporters. NPF Friends & FellowsThe deadline is April 14 to apply for the eighth Journalists in Aging Fellows program, a project of New America Media and the Gerontological Society of America.
