Happy Birthday Crofton House!
Students, alumnae and staff gathered as a community to celebrate the School’s 122nd birthday. Those in attendance were treated to a special song by the Junior and Senior Kindergarten classes, music by our choir and orchestra, a number from the Senior School musical Mamma Mia!, and heard birthday greetings from students.
The CHS Alumnae Association presented the CHS Alumnae Association Achievement Awards. This year, the Association presented the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award to Jane (Graham) McLennan ’47 for her long-standing support and contribution to local and provincial non-profit organizations. The Association also awarded the 2020 Distinguished Alumnae Achievement Award to Yuka Nagashima ’88 for her dedication and accomplishments as a senior executive, policy leader, entrepreneur and educator in science and technology. The 2020 Junior Achievement Award was presented to Sabrina Leslie ’98 for her outstanding accomplishments in scientific research. Sabrina was presented her award on February 28, when she visited with Junior and Senior school
students to talk about her career in STEM and being an entrepreneur. Yuka was unable to attend today’s celebration but will be on campus in June to speak to students. Read their bios.

This Sunday: Walk in Her Shoes
There’s still time to join the CHS team at the CARE Canada Walk in Her Shoes event on Sunday, March 8. This family-friendly event begins with a kick-off at Creekside Community Recreation Centre from 8:30 am to 9:30 am. Starting at 10:00 am, participants will walk 10,000 steps, the number of steps that represents the typical distance girls and women in developing countries have to travel each day to collect essentials for survival like firewood and water.
Saturday Matinee Tickets for Mamma Mia!
Tickets are still available for the Saturday matinee (1:00 pm) performance of the Senior School musical, Mamma Mia! Purchase tickets.
A Milestone in the ECE Centre
Zero the Hero visited ECE Centre students and joined them in counting to one hundred in honour of the 100th day of school.
Pink Shirt Day 2020
On Pink Shirt Day, we wear pink to symbolise a stand against bullying. At the Junior School assembly, Ena Harrop, Head of School, read one of her favourite children’s books, The Princess and the Dragon by Audrey Wood, the story of a princess and a dragon who swap places.
Art and Design in the Junior School
The 2017–2018 Artist in Residence, Tsēmā Igharas was back on campus to teach Junior School students the art of Northwest Coast formline design.
Also on campus was guest speaker Edwin Neel, who worked with students on Kwakwakaʼwakw Design and helped them design an Eagle in their sketchbooks.
Junior School Public Speaking Event
Students participated in the annual Grade 4-7 Public Speaking event. Girls select a topic to present about and are provided feedback on their presentation.
A Visit from the Acwsalcta School
The Senior School welcomed students and staff from the Acwsalcta School in Bella Coola, BC at a special assembly.
Following the assembly, the visitors and a small number of students and staff participated in a design thinking workshop to develop a plaque for the Thunder Mask that was gifted to CHS by Acwsalcta in 2016–2017.
The mask is on display on the upper level of the Chee Family Foyer in the Beedie Fine Arts Centre.
A Visit from the 2020 Junior Achievement Award Winner
Sabrina Leslie ’98, winner of the CHS Alumnae Association 2020 Alumnae Junior Achievement Award, associate professor at McGill University and entrepreneur, was on campus to talk to Junior and Senior School students. Pictured here, Sabrina spoke with the Entrepreneur 12 class about her experience as co-founder of a biomedical start-up, her work in STEM, and the process of applying for a patent.
Students vs. Teachers Volleyball
The Varsity Volleyball team and Senior School teachers faced off in a lunchtime volleyball match. Congratulations to the varsity team for their win. Better luck next time, teachers!
International Women’s Week
Senior School students shared some inspiring messages with classmates and teachers as they arrived at school.
CHS Exchange Program
