Local grimey beatsmith Dellity has a big tune up on his soundcloud page - check it while you're with us!
Lyndon Blue is in love with this city & what you can find if you keep looking. Very favourable review of Zeks & he sees much promise in Antelope. These acts recently played at The Bird!
Christopher Isaacs previews Tinkertown running at The Blue Room Theatre from September 25 to October 13.
Amber Fresh gives verbal snapshots of what she saw at the very recent Yardstock 2.0.
The Woohoo Revue are one of Australia's most mighty gypsy music bands playing across most major festivals lately. They are in town this weekend to play Wave Rock & they have one city show at Mojos Bar - which will be a very smiley & wild ride. First in here picks up a double pass!

lyndon blue: live reviews
ANTELOPE & ZEKS @ THE BIRD, SUNDAY SEPT 23
The jungle of steel and brick rises high and steadies itself. All around, lights of pearly white and brash colour cling like barnacles to thick, dark pillars with chilly, winking spires. On the ground, where gravity prevails, people are weaving, scurrying, lazing, smoking, eating, laughing, complaining, flirting. A bloated television sends a twitchy glow through an amphitheatre. A jazz band slaps and toots in a grotto. I slip through, hunter’s hat askew, stalking something new.
I’m endlessly fond of this town, its streets, people, bands, eateries, grassy knolls, spritely birds, flowery hillside nooks. Yet for all its merits (not to mention its sprawl) the city remains small: tight-knit, incestuous, sometimes parochial. With few places....

Amber Fresh: Chronicles
Yardstock 2.0 @ Noise Pollution Records & Various houses, Saturday, September 21
The boys laughed when you turned off the fluoro in the kitchen. You don’t like that light and maybe it’s because your spirit saw what my eyes saw, after the image was taken into my own spirit.
But Hayley Beth was in a window and there was nothing bad about it. She sung loud and true, and I watched the legend Maurice Flavel at the record store counter, to see what his face would say about what he was thinking. He was thinking the same thing as me, I’m sure. Hayley’s great. This music is interesting. This darkness in her songs is unexpected. Her gaze is so sure and the words come out like a drunken haze but perfectly straight like the arrow of the man who shot an apple instead of his son’s face.

christopher isaacs: in the black box
Tinkering With A Genre: Tinkertown at The Blue Room Theatre, Northbridge
Black comedies aren’t easy. They’re a real test of a production’s class. You need to have a good balance between the humour and the darkness. Too many gags and it sprawls into a schlock mess, almost a parody of the genre. Too much bleak topic discussions and the audience can be put off, fearful of an attempt to be shocked rather than entertained. Black comedies need edge, they need spunk and they need ‘cool’ written all over them.

at the banks reserve pavilion, perth
A dance night based on abandoning self-consciousness and professionalism through no lights and no talking as you bust a move, NLNL has finally hit Perth after incarnations across the Eastern States.
Whilst flirting and showing off are moves that are sacrificed, what emerges is self-confidence invested within the purity of dancing as well as a killer work-out to boot. Not to mention the uplifting sight of a town hall filled with shadowy apparitions shifting shapes to Getting Jiggy With It.

The Woohoo Revue
at mojos bar, FREMANTLE
THE WOOHOO REVUE are heading back to WA by popular demand after overwhelming acclaim at Fairbridge Festival this year and a sellout show at The Fringe World Spiegeltent last year.
Call them what you will- 'Balkan gypsy brass band, roaring twenties swing ensemble, Wild West fiddle contest or a soundtrack for Looney Tunes'- it barely scratches the surface. Their fiery compositions and virtuosic musicianship invoke a sense of romance and bravado. Every tune expresses a sense of occasion, transporting the listener to a rampaging after-party at a circus sideshow in a palatial ballroom.
Supported by ENSEMBLE FORMIDABLE. "Ensemble Formidable don’t walk onto the stage, they invade it!" - Kulcha, WA. Imagine Django Reinhardt at a 1940’s Parisian speakeasy rave playing manouche-jazz in fast-forward with Beyoncé down on the D-floor grinding the dubstep-charleston. Multiply that mayhem by ten and you have an Ensemble Formidable event!
Tickets are $20 presale through Heatseeker & $30 at the door from 8pm.

not the way home opening night
at buratti fine art, north fremantle
In May 2011, 13 prominent Australian artists ventured to the Barrier Ranges in north western New South Wales, for an epic journey into the vast landscape of Australia’s arid desert. Driving 1,100km west of Sydney, past Broken Hill and on to the University of NSW’s Research Station at Fowlers Gap, each artist responded to the landscape in their unique way.
Artists featuring in Not the Way Home include: Margaret Ackland, Elisabeth Cummings, Merran Esson, Joe Frost, Alan Jones, Jennifer Keeler-Milne, Ross Laurie, Steve Lopes, Euan Macleod, Idris Murphy, Amanda Penrose Hart, Peter Sharp and Guy Warren.
Curator of the exhibition, Owen Craven, Editor, Artist Profile and Art Almanac magazines, documented the journey along with journalist James Compton and ABC Open Producer Sean O’Brien.
Opening: 6.30pm.
Exhibition runs until 24 October

Shihad
AT MOJOS BAR, FREMANTLE
(EVE) In November 2011 SHIHAD released in New Zealand a career retrospective double disc – The Meanest Hits. With a catalogue of singles and hits that easily fill a double CD it’s no surprise then that as Shihad announce a tour to celebrate The Meanest, they include the notation that they’ll plunder said catalogue as they lay out a 90+ minute set to give enough time to cover the bulk of hits and favourites. Reflecting the band in transition, a second stanza embraces the big stage era where Shihad grew wings and a swagger and ramped up production. Shihad - The Meanest. A not to be missed, one time only opportunity to see and hear Shihad carve their own way through one of the great Rock n Roll catalogues.
Supported by EMPERORS.

Your recipes wanted
for the beaufort st recipe book
The Beaufort Street Festival is on again this year and the countdown has begun!
We have many new exciting ideas and programs happening this year, including a far greater focus on food! Given that Beaufort St has such a diverse range of dining opportunities we felt it was only fitting to celebrate that.
As a part of the food program, we will be producing a community recipe book, "Recipes and Ramblings; A Food Journey from Beaufort St and Beyond" which will feature recipes from those on the street and its surrounds. Chefs, shop owners and residents will combine forces to fill the book with their favourite recipes.

the whodunit sleuth
at limelite theatre, wanneroo
Can you figure out “whodunit”? That’s the challenge Limelight Theatre is giving audiences this September and October with its murder-mystery production Sleuth.
Written by Anthony Shaffer, it won a 1971 Tony Award for best play and was adapted by playwright Harold Pinter for a 2007 film starring Michael Caine and Jude Law, directed by Kenneth Branagh. Caine was also in the original 1972 film with Sir Laurence Olivier.
The play follows mystery writer Andrew Wyke, who lures his wife’s lover Milo Tindall to his manor house where he harbours an obsession for inventions and deceptions of fiction and a fascination with games.
The plot thickens when Wyke puts a proposition to Milo he finds hard to resist and Inspector Doppler, Detective Sergeant Tarrant and PC Higgs become involved in the chain of events.
September 27, 28, 29, October 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13. Tickets are $19 adults, $16 concession and $10 children.

edge of centre
at heathcote museum & gallery, applecross
An exhibition by Anne Duff and Jane King.
To be opened by Shadow Minister for Culture and the Arts John Hyde MLA on Friday, 28 of September 2012 at 6.00 - 8.00pm. To attend the opening please RSVP by Wednesday, 26 September 2012 to claire.bushby@melville.wa.gov.au or phone 9364 5666.
Exhibition runs from Saturday, 29 September to Sunday, 4 November 2012.
Anne Duff and Jane King have explored the past life of a small corner shop on the city fringe. They peered through the keyhole to another time; when the world was bigger and slower, when old social networks were localised, like single, fragile spider webs stretching delicately out toward each other, connecting thinly, at random.
In this technological age it is no longer fantasy to be able to see through walls. New radar technology has been developed that will allow the viewer to peer through solid surfaces in real time with nothing more than a mobile phone.

at paper mountain, northbridge
An exhibition of drawing, photography and found objects by Ashleigh Whyte.
Opening party - Thursday 27th September, 6pm
Exhibition runs Thursday 27th September - Monday 1st October
Opening hours - 11am - 6pm
Ashleigh's latest project explores the transient nature of space and loss of small histories through the demolition of houses. Her work reflects upon nostalgia and melancholia associated with renting and developing an attachment to a home, despite the knowledge that you will inevitably be forced to vacate.
Come down and have a beer to celebrate the opening of the exhibition!

the warrior and the princess
at the blue room theatre, northbridge
“Even a hunter cannot kill a bird which flies to him for refuge.”
Europe 1939, World War II begins. Jewish refugees flee when Poland falls to Germany. As the war progresses and the Allied forces strike back, the Soviet Union and Germany threaten to invade the refugees’ fragile safe haven in Lithuania. With borders closing, the refugees are desperate; their future looks dire whichever force may invade.
But in times of injustice, help sometimes comes from unexpected sources…
The Warrior and the Princess is a story of courage and the sacrifice of one for the lives of many. A unique reimagining of true events blends performance with shadow play, puppetry, and live piano accompaniment to recreate this little-known story of hope amidst the devastation of World War II.
“…each person must be judged on their character and nothing else.”
