Queensland Mental Health Week Queensland Mental Health Week (QMHW) is on from 9 - 17 October this year and is an annual awareness week that aims to shine a spotlight on individual and community mental health and wellbeing. QMHW encourages all of us to think about our mental health and wellbeing, regardless of whether we may have a lived experience of mental illness or not, and encourages help seeking behaviours, when needed. The week also gives us the opportunity to understand the importance of mental health in our everyday lives. It affects how we think, feel, and act. Queensland Healthy Kids Menu Healthy Kids Menu is an innovative healthy eating initiative from Health and Wellbeing Queensland (HWQld) designed to improve the availability and promotion of healthier food and drink on kid’s menus at cafes, restaurants, hotels, and clubs. The initiative outlines a set of nutritional guidelines to help venues make healthy food and drink options more readily available to children. It also offers a platform for people to showcase how they are staying healthy through #BoostCampQld, and the Big Boost will feature a series of challenges to motivate and encourage people to stay healthy at this difficult time. Events and OpportunitiesGOLD Cooking Workshops Nutrition Australia Qld hosts cooking workshops as part of the Brisbane City Council's GOLD (Growing Older and Living Dangerously) program. The program is for people living in the Brisbane City Council area, aged 50 years and over, and cooking workshops are $5 per participant. Check out the following GOLD sessions coming up this month: Vegetarian Delights (50 years and over) Springtime Salads and Sides (50 years and over) First Foods for Infants Nutrition Education Sessions - Logan Nutrition Australia Qld hosts nutrition education sessions as part of Logan City Council's Live Well Logan program. These sessions are open to people living in the Logan City Council area. Check out the following session coming up this month: First Foods for Infants This free casual information session will provide information for families and carers on feeding their infants, including first foods. Workshops will discuss the importance of infants and children experiencing food texture appropriate to their age and stage of development, which will assist a child’s speech development, oral health and motor skill development. Sessions will also include practical tips on how to make food for infants. Moreton Bay Regional Council Libraries Nutrition Australia Qld hosts nutrition education sessions at Moreton Bay Regional Council libraries. These sessions are open to people living in the Moreton Bay Regional Council area. We are now offering Food Safety Supervisor recertification training! Our recertification course is a condensed refresher course (3 hours) and is for those staff who already hold the Food Safety Supervisor qualification (for the vulnerable populations units of competency) and who are wanting to update their skills and knowledge. Upon successful completion of the training, students will receive a Statement of Attainment with the units of competency HLTFSE001, HLTFSE005, HLTFSE007.
