THE WEEK AHEAD at the UN SECURITY COUNCIL

3-7  September 2018

Dear Colleague,

The US took over the presidency of the Security Council on Saturday (1 September).

On Tuesday (4 September), the Council is scheduled to adopt its programme of work for the month.

On Wednesday (5 September), briefings on Libya are expected from the Special Representative and head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ghassan Salamé, and the chair of the 1970 Libya Sanctions Committee, Ambassador Olof Skoog (Sweden).

On Thursday (6 September), Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Bintou Keita is scheduled to brief on the UN Mission for Justice Support in Haiti (MINUJUSTH).

There will also be a briefing on Thursday by High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu on chemical weapons in Syria.

At press time, members were discussing the possibility of a meeting this week on Nicaragua.

At the subsidiary body level, a meeting of the 2127 Central African Republic Sanctions Committee is scheduled for Friday (7 September).
