Bedlam Cardigan

from Maiike + Co

The ladies at Maiike have a beautiful new store in St Kevin's Arcade, and we particularly love this cardigan. It looks cosy yet somehow dangerous.

I went to an amazing talk by Frank Rose at the Auckland City Library last night about storytelling in the age of the internet, and the art of immersion. It made all the rain and sickliness that's permeated my week disappear. It reminded me that inspiration needs to be hunted down and pounced upon; it's a slippery thing that's easily lost in the greyness of the every day. So I've tried to fill today's newsletter with things to do and places to go where you can gather a few drops of precious inspiration. Let it tap gently on your forehead and gather upon your eyelashes and fill your mind with light and creativity.

Cleo Barnett from First Thursdays likes:

Afternoon escapes to Rakinos

My favourite cafe downtown. Good coffee, best vegetarian breakfast in the city, happy hour on the balcony, Sunday evening Jazz sessions and lovely staff.

Cakes & Vintage at St Kevin's Arcade

The amazing cake selection is too delicious to pass up at Alleluya Cafe, heaps of talented local creatives in and out all day, and it's home to some of the best vintage boutiques in Auckland.

I have recently become obsessed with all things analog. Losing myself behind a lens is definitely my ideal way to spend a day.

GOOD READING
Oh hi there
Kim Evans
Written by: gather & hunt & Kim Evans

Little & Friday is the kind of cafe you'd imagine Holly Golightly would drink coffee in. I't s a whimsical wonderland of a place. The glass water bottles have cinnamon quills and mint sprigs in them, jars of apricot jam are stacked on white tables beside old recipe books, shortbread and peanut brittle is tied up with red ribbon and sold from the shelves. The treats in the cabinet look not only delicious, but beautiful as well. And then there's Kim Evans, the lady behind 'Lilfries, with her beaming smile and big talent and honest-to-goodness approach to all things food. Her first cookbook, Treats from Little & Friday, is out in bookstores now.

1. My dayjob is bosslady at Little & Friday but I’m also a mama.

2. If we gave you the day off tomorrow, what would you do?
First and foremost, have a seriously overdue sleep in. Then go somewhere like Queenies to actually sit down and enjoy a feed, their pikelets are killer. I haven’t managed to make it to the art gallery yet, and I’m really itching to, so the kids and I would probably go, then take our pup for a walk, followed by il buco for dinner.

3. Who makes the best coffee in Auckland?
Well, I have to say, at 7.30 every morning I get a damn fine soy flat white put in front of me at my work bench by my wonderful staff, but to be really honest, Jonny and the whole team from Supreme coffee are truly the best of the best...
