We are excited to announce our first distinguished honoree, Nelson Louis, in recognition of his long-standing dedication and unwavering commitment to strengthening organizational capacity and sustainability in the Asian American community.
Nelson leads The Ong Family Foundation, a private foundation established in 1997 with a broad philanthropic focus, particularly on programs that serve Asian communities. The foundation supports Social Services, Education, Medicine & Health Care, and Arts & Culture, awarding over $8 million to more than 100 nonprofit organizations in the Greater New York Metropolitan area. Nelson emphasizes building grantees' organizational capacity and sustainability to maximize the foundation's impact. Nelson previously worked with the YMCA for 37 years, beginning as a Youth Coordinator and eventually serving as President & CEO of the YMCA of Greater Bergen County. His tenure included leadership roles in youth programs, senior initiatives, capital projects, and international travel. Nelson co-founded the YMCA of the USA’s Asian Leadership Network and received the YMCA National AYP Award for Excellence twice.
