It’s been a busy month for the BOFA team, refining this year’s list of movies from hundreds to just 35, and preparing the program for printing. Well, it’s done- the 35 films are locked in for BOFA 2015 and the program is at the printers, ready for our September launch events around the state.
We realise that everyone likes different aspects of BOFA, so this year the program is broken up into seven sections FEATURES, DOCUMENTARIES, FOODIE FILMS, FAMILY FILMS, IDEAS FILMS, ECO FILMS AND OFFBEAT FILMS. Whatever your BOFA, you’ll be able to find it easily in our new look program.
In this newsletter, we’ll give you a sneak preview of star attractions from four of these sections.

Our Friday night feature at the Tramsheds showcases two of the world’s finest actors in wonderful performances- Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay are unforgettable in 45 Years, the story of a wintry crisis in the relationship of a retired couple. The Guardian called it “a moving and absorbing drama featuring two performers offering a lifetime’s wisdom and technique in their performances.”
7.30 Friday at the Tramsheds and not to be missed.

FOODIE

City of Gold is a delicious documentary about one of the world’s most influential and eccentric food critics, Jonathan Gold, who has been described as “the food-writing equivalent of Raymond Chandler” . Los Angeles based Gold is the world’s only food critic to win a Pulitzer Prize and in this richly penetrating documentary, he shows us another Los Angeles, where ethnic cooking is a portal to the mysteries of a diverse and cosmopolitan city and immigrants use their secret family recipes as an opportunity to build their American Dream.
12.30pm Saturday at the Tramsheds

After a plane crash, Saï, a capuchin monkey born and raised in captivity, finds himself alone and lost in the wilderness of the Amazon jungle. Saï has to find his way and finds himself face to face with all types of forest animals: jaguars, crocodiles, boas, tapirs, and giant otters -an exotic adventure the whole family are sure to love.

OFFBEAT
|

The Legend of Barney Thomson- the wonderful Emma Thompson steals every scene in this delightful jet-black comedy about a downtrodden barber (Robert Carlyle) whose mundane life is turned upside down when he accidentally turns killer. He turns to his hilariously fierce mother (Emma Thompson), a “gargoyle with a fondness for leopard print, a complexion like a well-squeezed tea bag and a voice like an orbital sander”, for help. Ray Winstone plays the malevolent Cockney copper. A deliriously dark comedy to be cherished .
7.45pm Saturday at the Tramsheds
