Best wishes, The Law & Business Programmes Team Upcoming News and Events How to Moot There will be a session run by Dr. Josh Martin in collaboration with Flamank Law Society entitled 'How to Moot' on 8th November in TH Old Chapel Lecture Theatre at 15:00. This will be followed by a Q&A and introductory session led by the Flamank Society from 16:00. After this session there will be a social which will have both non-alcoholic and alcoholic elements. Commercial Awareness for Future Lawyers On the 14th November between 14:00-15:30 there will be an interactive workshop in DDM Seminar E exploring what is meant by commercial awareness and how potential lawyers can develop this competency and convey these skills on application forms to potential employers. Click here to sign up. Law Society Hustings The Law Society Hustings will be held on the 29th November from 16:00-17:30 in Peter Lanyon Lecture 4. This will be your chance to run for a committee position within Flamank. In order to run you must be a member of the society and you will need to upload your manifesto onto the SU page. Lancaster University Law Conference Lancaster University Law School invites proposals for individual contributions under the broad theme of ‘Law and Justice’. The Conference invites academics, Masters, PhD students, early career researchers and practitioners for a one-day conference. Abstracts of no more than 300 words and a short bio of 50 words should be sent to lawpgrconference@lancaster.ac.uk by 13th December 2019. eXepert Scheme The eXepert scheme is an easy way to connect with University of Exeter alumni to ask careers questions. By filling in the form, you will be introduced to an alumni working in your field of interest. The whole purpose of eXepert is that your interaction with alumni will be a fact-gathering exercise via a short email exchange. There is no long term commitment and you can apply to the scheme as many times as you like, meaning it doesn’t matter if you don’t have a definite idea of what path you want your career to take. You can access the application form here. Legal Experience Opportunities Open to First Years Student Ladder provides a list of Law Firms and Chambers that give opportunities to first years. Many of these opportunities need to be applied for in this term. So make sure that you click here to find out more. LawCareers.net has three useful pages that you should access. The first is a list of Law Firms that offer first-year law specific open days and vacation schemes. To find out more click here. Please note that there are many early closing dates for these applications, so get applying now. You can find here a lengthy summary on all the legal experiences that you should be receiving via the legal profession during your first year. Finally, there is a Top Tips page on how to get the most out of law insight days and presentations - you should definitely access this before the Law Careers Fair. Target Jobs provides a great oversight of training contracts and vacation schemes that are available to undergraduates. Have a read through these different opportunities and start applying. Herbert Smith Freehills Roger Leyland Memorial ScholarshipThe Roger Leyland Memorial Scholarship was developed by Rare Recruitment and Herbert Smith Freehills to provide financial support and work experience to exceptional black and minority ethnic students.
