TODAY IS GIVE OUT DAY!

CPC Project Reach is participating in Give OUT Day, a month-long fundraising campaign culminating on June 30, the only national day of giving for the LGBTQ community.

CPC Project Reach is a youth and adult run, multi-racial, multi-gender, anti-discrimination and social justice training center with a primary focus of empowering youth and marginalized communities, namely LGBTQIA + P.O.C communities.

Project Reach's efforts to empower and support community members have not wavered since the start of the program in 1971.

Their achievements and impacts have always aligned with their goal to combat stigma that is perpetuated in schools, homes, and agencies across NYC while providing a safe space for youth to speak their truths. 

 

1971 

CPC PROJECT REACH OPENS 

  • Worked with immigrant youth and victims of Chinese gangs through the Eldridge Street storefront.

1990 

PRO-RADS OPENS: FIRST LGBT YOUTH CENTER ON THE LOWER EAST SIDE 

  • Pro-RADS, (Project Reach Anti-Discrimination Space) is established. It is the first safe space for Lesbian and Gay youth on the Lower East Side.   

1991 - 1992  

FIRST - EVER LESBIAN / GAY YOUTH RETREAT 

(Partners included: GLYNY, Gay Lesbian Youth of NY; YES, Youth Enrichment Services/The Center; HMI, Hetrick-Martin Institute; and The Door)

  • Pro-RADS establishes first-ever city-wide, youth-run, Lesbian/Gay Youth Retreat at The Farm in The Catskill Mountains.  

1995 

POSITIVE YOUTH

  • The start of a program that employed 12 HIV+/Young People Living w/AIDS; most of whom are LGBT/homeless/runaway youth.

2004 

SOCIAL JUSTICE BOOT CAMP 

  • A national (anti-militaristic) social justice training at The Farm that brought together 60 youth from 14 schools, community and LGBT programs from NYC and Texas committed to building solidarity and challenging racism, homophobia, and other forms of discrimination dividing their communities.​

2009

OUTRIGHT CONSORTIUM IS ESTABLISHED

(LGBTQ partners included: Pride Center of Staten Island; Generation Q, Brooklyn Community Pride Center, Bronx Community Pride Center, Make The Road NY/PRYDE/GLOBE)

  • A collaboration of over 35 schools, community organizations and LGBTQ centers in New York and Rhode Island committed to address homophobia, transphobia sexism and misogyny in their communities.
 

2014

HOSTS FIRST-EVER CITY-WIDE TRANSGENDER NONCONFORMING YOUTH RETREAT 

(Representing: The Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center, Generation Q, Pride Center of Staten Island, The Door and Project Reach)

  • 8 Trans/Gender Nonconforming Youth from New York organize the first-ever Trans Youth-run Retreat in the Catskills.  
 

CPC is always making strides to best serve our communities. It has been and always will be our priority to highlight and advocate for the voices and stories that are often left unheard.
