Hi there,

Chatting with local authorities isn’t on my list of things I'd rather be doing, and I’m clearly not in the minority, with new reports reinforcing the urgency of self-service in local government.

As with everything in life these days, we want instant turnaround on queries and easy ways to vent – and we want to do it our way, using whatever devices and channels we choose.

But improving citizen engagement comes at significant cost and risk for local government while budgets are being stretched in many directions. Is the investment to save our petulant selves a few moments of frustration worth it?

In other news this week:

  • What role does IT play in sustainability?
  • Deepfakes biggest threat: It's slightly seedier than political interference
  • Twitter apologises for data laundering whoopsie
  • 737 Max deaths prompt call for cyber incompetence register and a safer cybersphere

We also look at how connected intelligence – and a single source of truth – is enabling JetBlue to deliver proactive problem solving.

If you'd also like to improve your problem solving, a better crystal ball might help. Registering for Modernise Your Planning & Budgeting may be the first step toward getting one – the expert panel will be live online Oct 30.

Enjoy the read,
