The NSW Government’s latest COVID-19 response package will also include $24 million for eligible live music venues, a support package to help the business events industry in Sydney and regional NSW, and a funding boost for tourism marketing. NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the new package recognised the Sydney CBD and workers in accommodation, live entertainment and tourism industries had been especially hard hit by COVID-19. “With international, interstate and business travellers virtually non-existent for the past year, the CBD, and in particular the accommodation industry, has done it tough,” Ms Berejiklian said. Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres said supporting the live music and business events industry was vital as NSW continued its economic recovery. “Everyone has missed live music, the industry is coming out of hibernation, and this package will ensure our much loved venues are there to host the gigs people want to see as they celebrate NSW emerging from the pandemic. “There will also be support for business events and more money to market local tourism attractions as part of the Love NSW platform. “Our success in containing COVID-19 means we can now focus on assisting these vital industries get back to business,” Mr Ayres said. The key components of the program are:
The $100 accommodation vouchers will be allocated on a first-in, first-served basis, and is expected to commence in June during the quieter winter period. Industry has welcomed the announcement, commending the NSW Government for the targeted and timely measures that will help businesses hardest hit by the pandemic. Business Sydney Executive Director Katherine O’Reagan said: “Sydney is the jewel in the nation’s tourism crown and with nearly a quarter of businesses in the city impacted by COVID, the accommodation sector is amongst the worst hit due to the loss of domestic and international visitors, so this stimulus package will save jobs and boost the whole CBD economy.” Australian Hotels Association Director of Liquor and Policing John Green said: “The end of JobKeeper will be another blow, so today’s State Government announcement is perfectly timed - it allows hotels to retain more staff knowing bookings are on the horizon once again.” APRA AMCOS CEO Dean Ormston said: “The risk for NSW without this package was not only the loss of valuable cultural infrastructure but also thousands of jobs that are supported by live music across the hospitality and tourism industries.” More information about the package will be made available at NSW.gov.au soon. RESPONSE AND RECOVERY FOR NSW COMMUNITIES AFFECTED BY FLOODSA multi-agency Strike Force has mobilised with equipment and crews heading out to commence the clean-up following extreme floods across the State. Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the scale of rainfall over the past week and subsequent flooding requires dedicated recovery efforts. “Our emergency services personnel and volunteers have been outstanding in dealing with the wild weather and the floods, but the scale of rainfall has been enormous and the recovery process will be challenging,” Ms Berejiklian said. Deputy Premier John Barilaro said the Recovery Strike Force comprised personnel from the Australian Defence Force, NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire & Rescue NSW, with clean-up efforts beginning yesterday on the Mid North Coast following the all clear from the SES. “Our priority right now is to ensure roads are accessible, places are safe for people to return, and to assist with washout and clean-up by removing bulk waste,” Mr Barilaro said. Service NSW is working in partnership with Resilience NSW and other state agencies, local government and the Australian Government to provide impacted people with information on and access to accommodation advice, relevant charitable services, mental health and wellbeing services, support for businesses, clean-up services, financial assistance and insurance and legal support. The one-stop shop, administered by Service NSW, is now live and residents and businesses can connect with a Customer Care specialist by calling 13 77 88 (7am to 7pm including weekends). Further, a specialist support group to co-ordinate council-to-council assistance has been reactivated to help communities impacted by the floods. Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock said the Local Government Emergency Recovery Support Group was instrumental in ensuring offers of help from non-bushfire affected councils reached communities devastated by the bushfires in 2019-20. “As the devastation of the weekend’s deluge becomes clear, this support group will help co-ordinate council-to-council assistance to communities devastated by flooding. “I am calling on councils in a position to help communities in need to come forward. Likewise, I am also calling on those flood-affected councils who need help to come forward and register their needs,” Mrs Hancock said. The NSW Government is urging people who would like to donate to take advantage of the official partnership with the national not-for-profit charity platform GIVIT to coordinate donations and support local charities. Mental health support is also available at all times – the NSW Government recommends Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636) and Lifeline Australia (13 11 14). A compelling new initiative, developed by Destination NSW, Sydney Solstice will present 10 days of food, beverages, music and arts events in four Sydney precincts from 8 to 20 June. Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres invited venues, chefs, artists, musicians, event producers and curators to come up with creative ways to showcase Sydney’s innovation, diversity and vibrant culture. “We want businesses and creatives to collaborate with industry partners to realise bold, unexpected, high-profile featured events and benefit from direct NSW Government support, and smaller events will be promoted through the Sydney Solstice event campaign. “We have all worked hard to keep Sydney safe and open for business, so let’s enjoy our city and invite others to share in our world-class live music and performance, culinary experiences, local art, comedy and immersive workshops,” Mr Ayres said. The four Sydney precincts to be activated by Sydney Solstice are the Central Business District, Darling Harbour and surrounds, Oxford Street and surrounds, and Newtown and surrounds. COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS TO EASE BUT COMPLIANCE MUST INCREASESeveral COVID-19 restrictions across NSW will be eased next week as the State continues to move forward in a COVID-safe way. From 12.01am Monday, 29 March, the following will apply:
Businesses and other organisations must continue to ensure they keep accurate records of all attendances, including through QR Codes, to enable fast contact tracing in the event of any community transmission. Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the easing of restrictions is a significant step forward as NSW continues its COVID-19 recovery. “With no community transmission and our quarantine and frontline workers now receiving their second vaccinations, the timing is right to further ease restrictions across the State. “As we do this, it is important we don’t let our guard down and continue to check in at venues, keep our social distance and get tested if we have even the mildest of symptoms,” Ms Berejiklian said. The NSW Government is providing $14 million for the first phase of works on the site, which includes the investigation of structural integrity and safety as well as a program of critical repair and remediation works to begin later this year. Community consultation will include online seminars, face-to-face information sessions in the area and communication through advertising and letter-box drops.
