Linwood-Central-Heathcote community update - 2 July 2020

Christchurch City Council

Greetings from your Community Board

Message from the Chair

Kia ora koutou,
I hope you are all staying warm and dry during this wet winter weather. It's with great sadness that we farewell our dear colleague, Sally Buck, who is stepping down from the Linwood-Central-Heathcote Community Board due to ill health. Sally has been a strong advocate of our community over the past two decades and will leave a legacy behind her. We will miss you, Sally. Now that school holidays are on our doorstep, it's a good time to check out our libraries, pools and sports centres for some warm, indoor fun. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the spectacular light-based art works that are lighting up our central city and open spaces as part of a brand new event, CHCH is LIT. Keep being kind and look after one another. Kia kaha.

Chair of the Community Board

Highlights from our latest meeting

Our Community Board met on Monday 29 June. Some highlights of our meeting included adopting our new Community Board Plan for 2020 - 2022. This Plan outlines the strategic priorities we would like to achieve over the next three years and will guide our decision-making process. This plan will be available on the Board's webpage in the coming weeks. We approved authorisation for the Redcliffs School Board of Trustees to operate a school patrol at a relocated pedestrian crossing on Main Road, Redcliff.
We also approved landscape plans for part of the Lower Heathcote River Dredging works, which will include more than 150 native trees and more than 3,500 new native grasses and shrubs along the Ōpāwaho/Heathcote River within the Heathcote Ward area. Funding was approved for a number of community groups, including the Sumner Rugby Football Club and Fitclub Hub Charitable Trust. You can read more about and apply for community funding here. You can also read the minutes to see what else we discussed and find out the dates, times and details of upcoming Community Board and Council meetings here.

Give Way on Port Hills Road

We’re asking drivers to observe a Priority Give Way between 55 to 45 Port Hills Road in Heathcote. Due to delays with pipe connections arriving from overseas, we need to close this section of the road until we can complete installing the connections to the new wastewater chamber. Traffic management will be in place until these works are complete.

Bromley

Bromley odour action plan released

Last month Environment Canterbury released findings of a pilot study focused on identifying odour in Bromley. Environment Canterbury says the pilot study findings clearly identified the two Christchurch City Council-owned facilities - Living Earth organics processing plant and the EcoCentral EcoDrop - as significant odour emitters.  In response to the findings presented by Environment Canterbury, we’ve been working with EcoCentral and Living Earth to develop an action plan outlining potential short, medium and long-term options to mitigate odour at these facilities. You can read more about what our contractors are doing on Newsline or sign up for our newsletter. You can also view the action plan or a summarised version online.
